In this lesson we'll create a type catalog for the bookcase family. A type catalog is a dialog that displays when you load a family into a project. It lists all the types in the family, allowing you to select and load only the types that the current project requires. To create a type catalog, we'll first create an external text file that contains the parameters and parameter values that create the different types in the family. Open Microsoft Notepad. Although we'll use Microsoft Notepad to create the type catalog in this lesson, you can use any available text editor. In Notepad, click the File Menu and select Save As. Then navigate to the same location that you saved Bookcase.rfa Family, in our case Training Files, Imperial Families and save the file as Bookcase.txt. The type catalog must have the same name as the family. On the first line in the text file, enter Comma Length Pound Pound Length Pound Pound Inches Comma Width Pound Pound Length Pound Pound Inches Comma Height Pound Pound Length Pound Pound Inches. Then press Enter and on the second line type 36 by 12 by 36, 36, 12, 36. Then press Enter and on the next line we'll specify the name and dimensions of the second type; 60 by 18 by 60, 60, 18, 60. Then press Enter and we'll specify the name and dimensions of the next type; 72 by 18, 48, 72, 18, 48. When finished, save and close the type catalog. Next, we will load bookcase types into a project with the type catalog. Open the Art Gallery Project. Then open the Level One Floor Plan View and click the Component Drop-Down and select Place a Component. Then click Load Family and navigate to where you saved the bookcase family, select it and click Open. When you do, the type catalog displays, listing the three bookcase types. In the Specify Types Dialog, under Type, select 60 by 18 by 60 and click OK. In the Type Selector, notice that only a single type, 60 by 18 by 60 is loaded into the project. Place an instance of the bookcase to the Art Gallery Project. Then end the command and close the file without saving it as that concludes this lesson.
