The Opacity Slider, located in the Paint Controls in a Paint Operator allows you to make something more and more opaque or less opaque so that you can see through them. It's really a good tool to use whenever you want to draw something like a ghost, for example or you want to mimic something like a sheet or a candle so that we can see a little bit through the material and have the opacity diminish the harshness and solidity of something. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to draw a very quick little sketch of a ghost using the Filled Bezier Tool and I'll give him a grayish color. So I'm going to just draw with the tool and let's where I'm going to start here. I'll start with the head and let's go ahead and just draw something fun. Because ghosts are fun. Sure they are. OK. So here we have a ghost and what I can do now is I can continue to modify it or I can grab this tool and move it around. I'm also going to show you now how to use the Opacity Slider so that we can see behind him. So here is the ghost. I have him selected and I'm going to just click and drag the opacity down like so. I can then duplicate this guy by going to Edit, Copy and I can go to Edit, Paste, move him over and you can see that the opacity allows us to see through this character into another. So once again, you can have a room full of ghosts coming up or you can have a bunch of sheets hanging on a clothesline and you can even see that with different colors. So if I were to change the color of this ghost, the two colors would overlap and blend with each other to get some really nice effects. This same thing of course works with anything else that you bring into Combustion that allows you to change its surface properties. So I'm going to create a new composite and I'm going to import some footage. And let's see here. I should have something on my Desktop. Let me just grab this picture here, this PNG and I'll zoom out. So I have this shape here, this star and if I go to the Layer Button under the Composite Controls, you see that I still have the Opacity Slider and I can do the same thing I did with the ghost. I can drop that down and I can copy this guy and paste him, move it over and create some very interesting effects. So use opacity whenever you want to make something less harsh or you want to have some kind of see-through effect or even create some visual interest by having something animate and then have the opacity create some really nice blending going on for you automatically.
