There is so much that you can do inside of Combustion that sometimes you want to apply an effect to more than one layer simultaneously. And sometimes you'll find that your composites are just getting a little bit out of control and you have just too many layers in the workspace to deal with effectively. So what we can do is we can tuck those layers inside a nice little package called a Nest. So let me just go ahead and demonstrate something to you real fast. As you see here, I have the movies open. I have Highway Side open, the Kid Trailer and the Tunnel and I'm actually going to scale up the Kid Trailer so it's the same size. I can see the wireframe that's showing me that it's the same size as everything else now. But let's say I wanted to add an effect to all of these guys at the same time. Some kind of color balance where I can blow out the greens to get a really nice neon kind of effect. So I would think that I should be able to highlight all three of these guys by Shift Selecting them and then choosing to right click and add an operator, such as Color Correction, Balance. So I'll go ahead and just dial up the Green Slider and I have this really neon effect that I'm talking about. So I'm going to twirl open all these guys here. I'm going to hide the Highway and I'm going to just go to the Kid Trailer here and I'll turn that on, but the Kid Trailer, when I scrub through it, doesn't have an effect applied to it. That's interesting. I'll go to the Tunnel this time and I'll scrub through there as well and I don't have the green applied to this either. And that could really be a drag when you have a lot of different layers that need to have the same type of effect applied. So we'll undo a couple times and let me just bring that footage back in here. I'm going to this time Shift Select all three layers and I'm going to right click and I'm going to choose to go to Nesting. I can name this nest something, like I could say 3D Layers or whatever I like and I can put it in a Selected Layers Nest, which will nest the selected layers into a new composite and I can also composite, which will nest the layers into a composite and create a new layer from the output. So they both sound exactly the same and they kind of work exactly the same to tell you the honest truth. I typically just use either one of them and they work fine. So I use composite, click OK and now the name that I've given it is here and when I twirl it down, we have the three layers inside the composite. I'm going to go to the three layers, right click and add that same Balance Color Correction, blow out the green quite a bit, twirl all these guys down and then one at a time I'm going to hide what's going on here. So I'll hide the Highway, I'll go to the Tunnel. Yup, the green is applied to that. I'll go to the Kid Trailer and I'll scrub a little bit; the green is applied to that and the Highway has the green applied to that. So by nesting, I'm able to treat these three layers as one layer which is a composite and it's really a great benefit to nesting. Not only can you tuck away your pieces of your composite into nice little packages that you can have control over, you can also apply a special effect to just one layer and have that effect applied to everything that's underneath it. You'll notice that the Balance, the special effect is on top of this composite so it is then applied to everything inside of that.
