Introduction / Mac & PC Conventions
Subtitles of the Movie
This is going to be a pretty short lesson because it's just here to let people who use either a Macintosh computer or a Windows PC computer understand that there may be times when I ask you to perform a particular operation and I mention something like press Command or Control and you'll understand that if you're on the Macintosh, the Command Key is going to apply to you, whereas the Control Key is going to apply to the Windows platform. But sometimes Control is going to work on both. So when there is pretty much a doubt about which one to use, I'll try my very best to make sure I mention the platform if it becomes an issue. So for the most part, when I say OK guys, press Command or Control C to Copy, that means once again, the Mac people you got to press the Command Key and the C Key to Copy. Windows people, we're going to press the Control Key and C to Copy. And so on. So other than that there really aren't too many other differences that we have to worry about. The other thing I do want to mention, though, and I do mention this in another lesson, is that if you're on a Macintosh and you want to share your file with a person using Windows, you might want to just make sure that when you save your file from your Mac, manually add a .caws at the end of your file so that the Windows computers will be able to understand it. Most Mac applications can read a file because it recognizes the format and doesn't really use the extension; or rather it doesn't need to see the extension so it's pretty much invisible on the Mac. And what I mean by that is if you give me a Microsoft document that has a .doc on the Windows platform and it's called Starfish.doc, you could give a Mac person the document with just the name Starfish. We don't need to see the doc. And on a Mac it will open that up. So other than that, not too many other differences in the platforms, so just sit back and enjoy and get ready to learn some really cool techniques in Combustion 2008.
