Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical 2010: Basic Concepts Tutorials

Project Basics / Batch Plotting pt. 1

Subtitles of the Movie

Now the first thing you'll notice when I start expanding out the Project Manager here is I start to lose screen real estate. This shouldn't happen to you because I'm only running at 1024 by 768 resolution, purely to make sure that you get a good quality VTC video. You should be working on a much bigger screen res than I am right now so you would have a lot more space here, so don't worry about the actual display of the drawing itself. Now, you'll notice the Drawing Name at the top, BATCH PLOTTING, no number this time because what I'm going to do is add this drawing to the Project. So what I'm going to do here is right-click, Add Active Drawing, like so. Do you want to apply the Project Default Values? Yes, please. And that's now added. Now you'll notice it's made it 05. It's taken the information from the previous drawing, MAKING CHANGES, and added it to the BATCH PLOTTING drawing, so I need to right-click there, Properties, Drawing Properties, see, it's taken that Sheet 05 in there, so I need to make that 6 so that the drawings tally up. So I'll OK that, but look. I need to pick up on those as well, you'll notice, make sure that everything reads the same. It updates and, as you can see, I'm now in the BASIC CIRCUIT and it's drawing 06, like so. Now, let's get down to the real deal here. What we're looking at is BATCH PLOTTING, so I need to look at how I actually plot my Project drawings. Now you can plot your entire project if you want to. Now you'll notice there, look, in Project Tools we can Zip, we can Zip Upper Project, we can Delete a Project, we can Copy a Project if we want to. We can also Update and Retag and Mark and Verify DWG files as well. Now you'll notice there are other tools here, things like Title Blocks and so on. I'm not going to worry about those right now. What I am going to do is look at the actual Plotting Tools that are available to me. Now that's this Icon here in the Project Manager, Publish Plot. If I click on the little Down arrow there I can Plot the Project, I can Publish it to the WEB. If you're using, for example, a Web Page, or you're using Internet collaboration on a project, or I can Publish to DWF files, or I can just ZIP up the Project like so. So if I click on ZIP, it can't find a zip program executable. That's because I haven't got one defined in the Environment file for this particular project. So what I would need to do there is exit AutoCAD Electrical and open the Environment file with a Text Editor and add a WDZIP entry plus the full path name to your zip program. Now that's another benefit there of AutoCAD Electrical. You can specify and automate your zipping up of your drawings. I haven't actually done it in this case, but you can see there how easy it is. It gives you all the instructions there on how to zip up your drawings if you need to plot them elsewhere. I'll just Cancel that for now. Let's go back to just looking at Plotting, so let's go Plot Project. Now what I'm looking at here is the drawings - there's the Main Section listing, there's the Times and the Dates, there's the Project Drawing List, I've got Drawings or Descriptions there. Look at that. Isn't that clever? So I can really filter that just by Main Section and Basic Circuit. I'm not going to in this case; I don't need to, but there are all my Drawing Names there. They're sorted by sequential numbering so you'll see there, even though you can't see the actual drawing number they're sorted. Now if I want to do all of those drawings I would select this button here, Do All, or I can do it by Section, Sub-Section, Reset, Unselect. So let's just do a Do All and there they all are there, ready to plot. Now as soon as I hit OK they are going to plot.
