Project Basics / Project Files
Subtitles of the Movie
If your AutoCAD Electrical project is going to consist of more than one drawing you need to set up an AutoCAD Electrical Project File. Now to do this, the quickest way to set up a Project File is go to the Project tab on the Ribbon here and we need to open up the Project Manager. Now, I've got the IEC DEMO project there; I want to create a New Project here. So, New Project, like so, and this is going to be my AutoCAD Electrical 2010 Project, so I'm going to call it ACADELE2010. So that's the name of my New Project. AutoCAD Electrical 2010. Now the Location of that file can be changed, so I can click on Browse here and go and locate that wherever I want to. You'll see there, though, I've got a default ACADELE2010 folder; that's actually in my My Documents Folder, and you'll see there, look, Project, p-r-o-j, proj. That's where these project files go. So I'm going to leave it in there and I'm going to just basically insert that in there, like so and OK it. So it's going in the standard Location. I'm going to create a folder with the Project Name, so as you can see there, there's my dwp file and there's my folder there. The wdp file is the project itself. The project file. Copy Settings from another Project File? Yes I could do that. Why not. Let's take it from the IECDEMO one. So I'll OK that now and then go to the Properties of my Project. So you can see there I can set up things like the Components I'm going to use, the tags, the Wire numbering philosophy, the Cross-References; there's a whole shed load of detail here that you can go into. I'm not going to bore you with that right now on this one exercise about Project Files. There's also Styles, Drawing Format, how your Ladder Defaults work, how your Rung Defaults work and so on. I'm just going to OK all of that. So you'll see there now, there's my ACADELE 2010 Project. Now, I've got my 03 Project files drawing here, how do I add that? Well, if I right-click now I can add a drawing, so I've got to go and find that drawing and select the file to add, so I need to move my drawing into my ACADELE2010 Folder and as you can see when I hover over that, that's in the same location as the settings that I set up when I set up my Project File so I will need to mov my drawings into that particular file folder so that I can gain access to those drawings; more importantly, to add them to my project - that's the important thing. I'm going to Cancel that right now. So as you can see, that's how you build up your Project File and I can very easily just right-click on that project there and I can go to Settings, Properties. If I go to Settings there, there are all my current settings, how it all works. If I close that now and right-click again and go to Properties you'll see there are those Properties again when I first set up the Project itself. So, all that information can be set up, ready to go. The good thing is you can copy that across to another project using the Copy option in the Project tab in the Project Tools Panel.
