Basic Workflow / Application Menu
Subtitles of the Movie
The Application Menu in AutoCAD 2010 replaces the Menu Browser that you had in AutoCAD 2009. The Menu Browser you had in AutoCAD 2009 basically replaced the Pull-down Menu that you had up here. Now you can bring in the Pull-down Menu. If I click here on the Quick Access Toolbar and go here, Show Menu Bar, there is my Menu Bar, my Standard AutoCAD Menu Bar. Now it is still available but it's not available here on the Application Menu like it used to be in AutoCAD 2009, hence the change of name. This is now an Application Menu. It's got nothing to do with the Menu Bar or the Menu Browser in AutoCAD 2009 and also Standard Pull-down Menus in previous versions of AutoCAD. I'm just going to lose the Menu Bar there. I'm going to hide the Menu Bar again to tidy up my screen area. So, the Application Menu, what does it do? It's this big red A in the top left corner of the screen. Now for each different version of AutoCAD you'll see a letter or a number here. I've got E for Electrical. If it was AutoCAD Mechanical that E would become an M. If it was AutoCAD 2010 Vanilla it would be 2010. If I click on the fly-out arrow there it opens up the Application Menu. Now I have a search engine here so I can type in something like circuits here, like so; I'm just looking for matches for circuits, so there are some commands there - Circuit Builder, 3 Phase Wire Numbers, Save Circuit to Icon Menu. If I just delete those letters there like that it brings me back and as you can see I'm back to the original view. Now, before I go into any of the left-hand menu let's have a look at the top here. I've got Recent Documents here. If I click here Open Documents. I've got the APPLICATION MENU drawing open. So, let's go back to Recent Documents and those are the drawings that I've opened recently. So I can quickly go back and open up one of those. So 001, for example, if I quickly open that up that will open up and that was that drawing from the IEC DEMO on the Project Manager. So I'll just quickly close that now. Don't want to make any changes to it. I'm back here to the Application Menu. I've got New, so I can open up a new Drawing or a Sheet Set, I've got Open, I can open up a Drawing, a Sheet Set, or even a DGN from Bently Microstation software. I can Save, I can Save As. I can Save as a Drawing, a Template, a Standards Drawing, or other formats. I can Export out. There are things like DWF, or PDF, or DGN. I can also Print, so I can Plot, Batch Plot, Page Setup, all the standard AutoCAD tools are available to you via the Application Menu in AutoCAD Electrical. So there's Publish there, I can publish to a 3D Print Service, I can Archive. It's all standard AutoCAD terminology and commands. I can eTransmit on the Send option here, or I can send an E-mail with a drawing as an E-mail attachment. Drawing Utilities, I've got things such as Units, Purge, Recover, Audit, Status, all standard AutoCAD technology in AutoCAD Electrical. And then obviously I've got the normal one there, Close the Current Drawing or Close AutoCAD itself. I closed the current drawing there so if I now go to Open you'll see there, there's my Application Menu drawing, I can open that up again and I'm back there and I can go back to the Application Menu. So as you can see, the Application Menu now is an application menu - it's not a menu browser like it used to be in AutoCAD 2009. That's all on your Menu Bar, which you can open up using your Quick Access Toolbar.
