Drafting Tools / Status Bar
Subtitles of the Movie
Your Status Bar resides at the bottom of your AutoCAD screen and there's various areas that I'm going to discuss on the Status Bar in a moment. The Settings for your Status Bar are controlled right down in the bottom right corner by this arrow here. There's the Application Status Bar Menu. If I click there you can see that all these checkmarks, these ticks, show me what is switched on, on the Status Bar. Can you see that? Cursor Coordinate Values, bottom left corner there. Paper Model, Quick View Layouts, Quick View Drawings, Annotation Scale - that's all these ones here. There's the Paper Model, there's the Quick View Layouts, there's the Quick View Drawings, Annotation Scale is just there. You can hopefully see my little pointer right at the bottom of the screen there moving along and you've got there Annotation Visibility, AutoScale, Workspaces is there, Display Locking and so on. You've also got a Clean Screen option. Now I'm not going to go to that right now but you can lose everything around the edges of the screen. All you will have is the Drawing area and the Ribbon. I'm not going to switch that on at the moment, but you can do that if you want to, or you can do Ctrl and 0. In fact, let's do it. Let's go for that. Let's have a look at Clean Screen. I'll just hit Escape there to lose that menu and Clean Screen is this icon here. Clean Screen and you'll see it takes a few seconds and it basically cleans the screen. You're left with the Command Line, as you can see and the Ribbon disappears. If I do a Ctrl and 0 and bring that back, it goes back to the previous setting. So, remember Ctrl and 0. Ctrl and 0 actually toggles that off and on. It's quite good if you've got limited real estate like I have on the screen. In your case you're probably using one of those lovely 27 inch flat panel monitors so you don't need to worry about it. I'm only kidding there. Those are big, expensive monitors right now, but they're lovely to have if you've got them. But that's your Clean Screen option on the Status Bar. Now the Status Bar is always there. Do not switch it off. It's very important. For example, there, I've got my Coordinate Readout just there, I've got all my Drafting settings here as I move along and then it's telling me I'm in Model Space, I can look at things like Quick View Layouts, Quick View Drawings, my Annotation Scale, so if I click there, there's my Annotation Scales, Annotation Visibility, my Workspaces are there as well. It's all information that you need to see all the time, so do not switch your Status Bar off or switch any of these settings here on the Control Menu off. Always leave them on. You should really have all of these ticked. Status toggles here, these are things like INFER, SNAP, GRID, can you see those? Those are all those ones just there: INFER, SNAP, GRID, ORTHO. You can actually switch those off. Personally, please don't. For the purposes of this course, please leave all of those checked and switched on. Let's just hit Escape a few times there before we make any changes that we don't want to. So, that's your Status Bar, bottom of the screen, always check it, always look at it, utilize it for your settings as you work in your architectural design in AutoCAD 2011.
