There are Known Issues with AutoCAD and Data Linking. You'll notice the bubble down at the bottom of the screen telling us that a Data Link has changed. Any Tables using this Data Link may need to be updated, and the Hyperlink there is prompting us to Update tables using the Data Link Install Schedule OLD. Now, you'll remember in previous exercises that we did have an InstallSchedule, and it was here in the Drawing Area. I've since deleted that Table but the Data Link is still there. Now if you go to the Insert tab here and go to your Reference Panel here and click here on the arrow, that will open up your External References Palette. Now you'll notice there you've got our drawing, our KNOWN ISSUES drawing there, but you'll notice, look, there are Data Extractions there that have not been found. I'll just expand that slightly. And you'll also notice there it's telling us that the Install Schedule OLD is loaded, but there's no Table there for the InstallSchedule, so even if I update the Table using the link down here it won't update because the Table is not in the drawing because I've deleted the Table. If I click there and right-click over that I can open it like so, and that will open up the Table you'll notice in Excel, but it won't actually install it on the drawing for me. So what I'll do, though, I'll do an Alt-Tab now and go back to AutoCAD, and what you'll notice there is I can't install that schedule unless, unless you've got the data on the drawing itself you cannot remove these Data Extractions. If I right-click over these I can update the Data Extraction but there's no option to actually delete it, and unfortunately, having checked on the Internet as well Ð this is something I've looked into specifically for you in this course Ð there is no actual method of removing these from the drawing. So you may get either a dialog box prompt or a bubble prompt like this saying that the Data Link has changed. Now, what I can do there is I can create a New data link, so I'll just close the References Palette there, and what I will do now is I'll also just close this bubble here. And what I can do there is I can bring the Table back into the drawing if I want to. I can Insert a Table by creating a New data link. So, if I go Data Link here there's my Install Schedule OLD, but what I could do there is I could create a New data link if I wanted to. I can easily insert that Table again. I can just Cancel that and I can go back to the Home tab here and I'll look for Table here in the Annotation Panel, so Insert Table, start from a Data Link here, and like we did previously I can use the Install Schedule OLD like that, there's the Table there, I OK that, bring it into the Drawing Area here Ð it's very small, you'll notice, that's because it's using the Standard table style, but what I can do there, if I just pan across slightly and zoom in you can see the Table is there, so I'll just click on it there, right-click, use Scale here, and perhaps select the corner there, Scale Factor 100, if I just zoom out slightly now you can see that I can bring that Table in. If I select that Table now you can see there it's locked and there's a Data Link, so I can now update those data links. But the problem you have is as soon as you click on that Table and you actually delete that from the drawing and then save the drawing what will happen is those links are still there but the actual data is not displayed on the screen in a Table. So, you need to be aware of that Known Issue with AutoCAD, whereby if you do Data Link from an external source and remove the Table from the drawing the Data Link still exists but the Table isn't there. You will get prompts and bubbles telling you that that Data Link is there. So please be aware of that in AutoCAD.
