The Tools Panel on the Express Tools Tab allows you to work with certain settings within AutoCAD. The Command Aliases Command is very useful. If I click on it you'll see what I mean. What it does is it opens up an Alias Editor in the ACAD.pgp file. Now, the ACAD.pgp file controls all of the aliases for AutoCAD commands. If I scroll down a little bit and go to C, you can see there that the first alias for C is obviously Circle. So if I type C and press Enter, it will kick off the AutoCAD command. If I type BR, that's the Break Command. So as you can see there, I've got all these aliases in AutoCAD by default. I can actually edit them if I want to so if select BR there and Edit, I can actually edit the alias for the Break Command. I don't want to edit it in this case. I'm just going to cancel there. The good thing is if I actually type in a word here, I can actually search the list of commands and it will find the command that is closest by typing in Break. I'm just going to cancel there and close there because I don't want to make any changes there but if you did want to make changes, it would be extremely useful. Now, let's have a look at some of the other commands here. I've got Attach X Data, Extended Object Data to an Object. Now that's data that would link to a database. We haven't got any information like that on our drawing but if we were linking to a database, it would be extremely useful. List Object X Data; now, I can list the X Data of an Object by clicking on this icon and perhaps selecting this line here. Enter application name or press Enter there and the object has 16,383 bytes of X Data Space available. So there's no actual X Data associated with that application at the moment. But you can see where it's going from. You can start linking to databases. Now, let's have a look at the next one here. What's this one here? System Variable Editor. If I click on this one, it's similar to the pgp one but what it does, these are all the system variables in AutoCAD. If I scroll down here, there's lots and lots of different variables at dia. That controls whether the Insert Command uses a dialog box for Attribute Value Entry. So if you're inserting an object such as let's say a block with attributes, you can either have a dialog box or not. It issues command prompts on the Command Line or one there uses a dialog box. So I can go in and I can set these values and change them if I need to. Again, another little useful application that might help you out sometime in the future. I'll just cancel that there. Now let's have a look at the fly-out menu here. Extended Plan; I can enhance a plan, I can make a line type or I can make a shape. Let's make a line type and as you can see there, the file name, I can create a line type and put it into a folder basically. And what that allows me to do is it allows me to create linetypes very quickly within AutoCAD. So I could use these lines here perhaps to create a line type if I wanted to. So as you can see again, the Tools Panel on the Express Tools Tab is very useful to use. Now, I haven't actually got any applications that it can work with in this drawing right now but you can see the potential there. So Tools Panel, Express Tools Tab; useful tools and databasing tools.
