Drawing Objects / Hatches & Gradients pt. 2
Subtitles of the Movie
So as you can see now I've got a Hatch Pattern that defines the outer brickwork and the inner blockwork. OK, let's zoom out a little bit, let's put some Gradient Fill in here now. I've set up some Layers here so I'm going to go for Gradient-Water. Now that will place the Gradient Fill on that Layer but it will not adopt the color of that Layer. Let's zoom in on the pond, go to Hatch here again, on the Draw Panel, and select the Gradient tab. Notice it adopts its own color. I'm going to go for two colors here, so I select Two Color here. I've got blue, that's lovely. I'm going to add a green. So, I go to Index Color tab here; I'm going to place a green in there as well, and click on OK. Now I've got that nice bluey-greeny mix. I'm going to select this one here and I'm going to Rotate at an angle of 45 degrees. I go to Add Pick points as I would normally, pick a point inside the pond, right-click, and Preview. There's my pond with my little bit of green at the top there. I right-click to accept. So now you can see exactly my pond and it looks like a pond, that's the best bit about the Gradient fill, but what I am going to do is I'm going to click on the Gradient fill, like so, I'm going to right-click and go to Draw Order and Send it To the Back, so the outside edge, the Spline there, shows. And what I could do is I could maybe change the color of that Spline, which is actually the Pond Layer there, so if I hover over that you can see it's Layer Pond. If I go to the Layer Properties Manager, or the new feature in AutoCAD 2010 I can just click on the color of the Layer Pond and make that much darker. So if I click there and OK that you can now see that the outside edge of that pond is much more clearly defined because I've put the Gradient Fill to the back and made the Layer that the Pond Layer is on darker. So, let's put some more Gradient Fill in. So what I'm going to do now is do some hardstanding, so again I'll go back to Gradient. I'm going to go for a warm color this time; I'm going to click on the button here, Index Color, I'm going to go for my hardstanding, which is like a concrete sort of color; I OK that, Add Pick points and there's my hardstanding there; I right-click and I Preview. As you can see it shows the hardstanding, I right-click to accept. Now the last bit is going to be Grass, but what I need to do, if I click there, look. That's on Gradient Water. I want that on Gradient Hardstanding, so just change the Layer. Make sure you use your Layer Conventions. I'm now going to go for Gradient and Grass, same again, Hatch, Gradient tab, 1 Color, click here, Index Color, I'm going to go for a nice Green, which is there, I click on OK, there's my Green, my Add Pick points, and I pick here. It finds the Boundary and also puts the Boundary around the existing objects. I right-click and Preview and there's my Grass, I right-click to accept. So as you can see now, look how effective that drawing is now. I've got building, grass, hardstanding, pond, all using Hatching and Gradient Fill.
