Drawing Objects / Revision Clouds
Subtitles of the Movie
What we're now going to look at is the Revision Cloud Command in AutoCAD. It's also known as REVCLOUD. It was actually written by a user of AutoCAD many, many moons ago and was originally in the Express Tools Menu of AutoCAD and basically it became so well used that Autodesk decided to put it into the Draw Panel. So if we go over to the Draw Panel here now, click on the fly-out menu and pin out the fly-out menu here, there is the REVCLOUD Command there, and it creates a Revision Cloud using a Polyline made up of arcs. So if I click on Revision Cloud here like so and come into the drawing it prompts me to specify a Start point. Now before you specify a Start point you need to make sure that the Arc Length is appropriate to the context in which you are drawing, so you right-click. I'm then going to select Arc length here and at the moment the minimum Arc length is 300. Now ideally you want that to be a bit bigger Ð 300 is roughly the width of the wall of our building. I think our building wall was actually 275 wide, if I remember rightly, so it's not going to be that big an arc that makes up this Revision Cloud. Roughly speaking, if you're working in millimeters like we are in this drawing, go for a meter, or 1000, like so, and press Enter and then the maximum length of arc also make that 1000 then accept the default of 1000 there. That way your arc will be easy to see and be simple with lots of bigger arcs rather than lots of tiny arcs. Now, you specify the Start point of your arc. I'm going to put that around the doorway here, and it's just a case of left-click, drag, left-click. And as you go round you'll notice that the arc even picks up on the fact that as you go around, look, can you see it's popping an arc in each time? If I keep left-clicking I get these small arcs here, you'll notice. If I just drag I get the standard 1000 long arc. But as you can see there I now have a Revision Cloud. I can click on that Revision Cloud, I can right-click and move it Ð I'll pick a point roughly in the center and just move that up a tad, like so. Because it's a Polyline I can select it, I can then right-click on it and go to Properties now and in the Properties I'll change the Global width there to say 25. Now what you'll see is a thicker line making up that Revision Cloud because it's a Polyline. I can apply a physical width to that Polyline. So now the Revision is very, very obvious. Now let's say that we are revising that doorway there into the building. What we need as well is a block, something like a triangle with a number in it to relate that revision to the list of revisions on the drawing Title Block. So if I go to Insert here and in the true sense of here's one I prepared earlier I have Rev Symbol, I click on OK, there's my REV SYMBOL there, I'll just left-click there and place it there. It asks me for the Revision; let's say it's Revision 01, press Enter, and there's my revision there. Now you'll notice that doesn't fit, so maybe I should edit that Block and change the attribute there. So I just double-click on it and I can change that Revision there. Let's just change that value using the Enhanced Attribute, that is a 1. I Apply that new value of 1 and OK it, and it looks much better. If I just zoom out slightly now, look. It's blatantly obvious that there's Revision 1 there around that doorway. So as you can see, REVCLOUD, extremely useful. Extremely easy to see that revision. More importantly though it's written by a user for the users.
