A WMF file is a Windows Metafile and what that means is most Windows-based applications will be able to read that metafile. Now, Windows Metafile is a raster image so it's like a JPEG or a bitmap or a GIF or a TIF file. What we're going to do is we're going to select everything here in our Model Space, I hasten to add, I'm in the Model Tab. And what we're going to do is we're going to go up to the Application Menu now and we're going to go to Export here and we want to export to another file format. So if I click on Other Formats here, like so, and then click on the Down Arrow here, there's my metafile; WMF. That one there. So I want to save it as a WMF in my Drawings folder, which is here. So I've got to find my Drawings folder here so let's do that. Let's find the Drawings folder that we need, which is in our Section 13 there. I want it in that folder there. And there's my WMF file. It's just taken on board the actual file name of the drawing there; 13 Output WMF and then it's put the WMF suffix on the end. So I'll save that in my Drawings folder. It's done that already. You don't even blink there because you'll miss it. Now, what we've got there is a WMF saved in our Drawings folder. So what I need to do now is I need to go and find that WMF file but before I do that, let's have a look at Microsoft PowerPoint. I'm going to go to PowerPoint. I've got it open. So what I'm going to do here is go to Insert, Picture from File. That will go and look in my Drawings folder. I preset it to do that just to save drilling down through all my folders to find it. But there's my WMF file. If I insert that now, it inserts it into a PowerPoint Slide, which is fantastic news. I could also resize it to make it fit on the slide and I can move it around on the slide like so. So what I've got there now is a slide showing all of my drawing information. Great for presentation purposes. I might need to present my new house design to the planning authorities to get planning permission to build it. So as you can see there, I'm now ready to go with a PowerPoint slide of my drawing. Nobody needs to know how to use AutoCAD when they're presenting so you could create presentation slideshows for somebody who's got no knowledge of AutoCAD whatsoever and still allow them to display the drawing information. Such are the benefits of Windows Metafiles, the WMF.
