The User Interface - AutoCAD 2009 Style! / Dialog Boxes

Subtitles of the Movie

We're now going to look at dialog boxes in AutoCAD 2009 and as you can see we have small rectangle in the bottom left corner of the screen. I'm going to use a command called the Array Command in AutoCAD to demonstrate the use of a dialog box. Notice the Array Dialog Box on the screen, I'm now going to select the Rectangular Array Option to create a Rectangular Array and I'm going to click on the Select Objects button. Upon clicking on the Select Objects button I'm prompted to select my object on the screen, my rectangle, I right click to Confirm and it takes me back to the dialog box. I now need to enter further information in the dialog box itself, I need to input the number of rows and the number of columns that I want in my Rectangular Array. I can also input my row offset in the box as shown and I'm going to now input my column offset as shown. I can also use the icon buttons on the right of these input boxes as well. I have one object selected therefore I can click on the Preview button and that will give me a preview of the array that I am creating. In this case it's incorrect, the row spacing and the column spacing are too small and hence the array objects are all on top of each other. I go back to the dialog box and change the row offset and the column offsets, again notice I'm inputting information in the dialog box each time and using the dialog box to create my array. I hit the Escape button again to get back to the Array Dialog Box and change the settings in the dialog box again. Notice I'm going in and out of the dialog box here to change the values to make sure my array is correct.
