The User Interface - AutoCAD 2009 Style! / Dynamic Input

Subtitles of the Movie

We're now going to look at Dynamic Input in AutoCAD 2009. Now looking at the Command Prompt down at the bottom of the screen there when I click on it I can type in the Line Command and upon pressing Enter AutoCAD prompts me again on the Command Line to type in the first point of my line. Now as you can see I'm not getting any screen prompts, but as soon as I switch on Dynamic Input on the Status Bar you can see now that the Specify Next Point prompt is not only on the Command Line it's also on the screen in the drawing area. Notice I can type in the coordinates there and it positions the line as shown. Notice I can now specify distances and angle and utilize my Object Snap Tracking also to start creating other lines on the screen. Using Polar Tracking there I don't even have to think about the angel, I can just type in the distance, the Polar Tracking locking me into the 90 degrees. If I right click I can also Close if I wish but what I can also do is utilize my Object Snaps here to go to the next point on the line by left clicking as shown and there's my finished triangular drawn three lines utilizing Dynamic Inputs. Coming off of that point again as you can see I'm creating another line and this time I'm typing in coordinates using my Dynamic Input I'm also typing in distances and angles. Dynamic Input is very useful if I right click over Dynamic Input and go to settings I can look at the settings, notice their in the Drafting Settings dialog such as Snap and Grid, Polar Tracking and Object Snap On. Pointer Input allows me to input information around the pointer such as coordinates, Dimension Input allows me to enter distances. If I click on the Settings button I can also set the coordinate input to Bartizan and absolute relative if required and visibility, I can also set using the settings. The Drafting Tooltip Appearance allows me to change colors of the Dynamic Input boxes in the drafting area whilst I'm drafting and going back to the drawing area again what I can do is switch on Dynamic Input and make sure its available for my next drawing.
