The User Interface - AutoCAD 2009 Style! / Icon Toolbars
Subtitles of the Movie
In AutoCAD 2009 the new user interface provides us with the Ribbon at the top of the screen and using the panels on the Ribbon such as the Draw Panel, you can select your commands from each panel as you go. However down on the Status Bar if we go to Workspace Switching we can go back to the AutoCAD classic setting. This allows us to use our icon toolbars and our pull-down menus. As you can see on the screen now we have our AutoCAD classic workspace and we still have our toolbars such as the Draw toolbar. These can be docked and floated as per previous versions of AutoCAD but you'll notice there are no title bars now on the toolbars. You hover over them in a similar way to palettes in AutoCAD and they can docked and floated at leisure, as you can see I am now re-docking the Draw toolbar and I still get the Tooltips when I hover over the icons. I'm just going to close the Tool Palettes window there and as you can see I'm going to close the Contents SeARCh toolbar as well. Now looking at the pull-down menus we now have the standard pull-down menus back in AutoCAD 2009. This allows us to work with legacy based users who may be used to pull-down menus and the icon toolbars. As you can see when I right click over any icon I get my list of toolbars available to me just like previous versions of AutoCAD, I've loaded up the Inquiry toolbar there and what I can do here is I can lock my floating toolbars and panels while using the little padlock symbol, bottom right on the Status Bar. So you'll notice now that I cannot drag and drop my toolbars, they're locked in place, notice the little No Entry Symbol when I click on the top of the toolbar to float the toolbar or move it around on the screen. I can click on the Close Padlock again, click on the Docked toolbars and notice they are now unlocked again. I can lock my floating toolbars, so notice the Inquiry toolbar now cannot be moved and the No Entry Symbol appears again. Again click on the Close Padlock and I can switch that function Off. I can also, if I want to, hold the Control key and override that locking if I need to. Again the No Entry Symbol appears there because I'm just clicking on the toolbar without the Control key held down. When I unlock the padlock again I can then move the toolbar around at leisure or close it to remove it from the screen.
