The User Interface - AutoCAD 2009 Style! / Menu Browser

Subtitles of the Movie

We're now going to look at the Menu Browser in AutoCAD 2009. The Menu Browser in AutoCAD 2009 replaces the original menu pull downs that you had in previous versions of AutoCAD. Click on the Arrow near the large red A in the top left corner of the screen and as you can see you now have a replacement for the Pull- Down menus as you can see when I click on File there's new features such as Export to Autodesk Impression. If I now look at the Edit area there I have all the edit tools I did have on the Edit pull-down menu in previous versions of AutoCAD. As I work through these you can see that it is literally a replica of the pull-down menus albeit in a different area of the screen. Steering Wheels are available as they show motion, again new 3D features in AutoCAD 2009. You also have Motion Path Animations, again a new feature. On the Insert area you can insert your reference drawings, raster images and so on. As you can see there external references can be managed as can the format of the drawing by way of things such as Text Styles, Dimensions Styles. Tools are still there, so you can edit your drawing utilizing tools such as Quick Select and also you'll notice on the Draw Pull-Down now you have all of the Draw commands. These replace the pull-down menus as I said, Dimension is still there and all the commands there are also available in the Dimension area on the Ribbon. In the Modify area there are new functions as well in AutoCAD 2009, you have all the standard commands, notice the icons have changed as well. You now have a Change Space command which allows you to move objects between Model space and Paper space. You'll notice I'm getting the properties of each command coming up with a Tooltip as well; this is again a new feature in AutoCAD 2009. The Help screens are the same as you can see; it's the same as if you click on Help on the pull down menu. Recent Documents, I can go to any of the recent documents I've had opened, I can also look at current open documents and also recent actions, similar to the old start-up dialog box in previous versions of AutoCAD. I can also open the Options dialog box and go in and change my AutoCAD settings as in where required. If need be I can also exit AutoCAD as you can see I am back now to my Desktop.
