Up until now we've utilized the Layer Properties Manager Palette, what we can also utilize is the Layer pull-down menu which is available on the Home tab here and it's in the Layers Panel here. Now what we're going to do is expand out the Layers Panel and Pin it out using the Pin here, because then all of our tools are available to us. Now the benefit you have here is not only do you have the Layer pull-down menu available to you showing you the Layers that area available. But we can do here is we can select a Layer and make it our current Drafting Layer. So if I click on the word Center that is now the current Drafting Layer. If I draw a line now and use my Center Line Type, you'll see its drawn on a Center Line Type like so. If I now change that layer to say M-OBJECTS and draw similar lines you'll notice they are on a different color and a different Line Type. So you can see that these lines and these layers now allow us to distinguish different objects on the drawing. Now there are other tools that are very useful on this Layer Panel. Notice here I have Turn All Layers On, Thaw All layers, I can lock the layer of a selected object, I can Unlock the layer of a selected object. Let's do that, let's lock this layer here. So that object now is locked and you'll notice that everything on that layer has faded based on the Locked Layer Fading here. So everything is locked on that layer. If I click on Unlock I can just go and click on the Object, it unlocks again and I can edit the object. So you can see there's lots of useful tools here, I can make a layer current. So I can change the layer of the selected object to the current layer. So if I click on this one and click on my Center Line Type here and then right click to Confirm or Enter, you can see now its changed it to the current layer, the M-OBJECTS Layer. So there's lots of useful tools here. I can Isolate to the current Viewport, so that will freeze all my selected layers in all Layout Viewports except the current Viewport, useful in the Layout tab. I can also merge selected layers into a target layer removing previous layers from the drawing. So if I've got objects on layers that I don't need, I can merge them and also we have delete, Delete All Objects on a Layer and purge the layer from the drawing. So I might have objects on a layer that I don't want, I want to delete the objects as well, so as soon as I delete the objects by clicking on that one there I can Select the Objects to Delete but also delete the layer that I don't want as well, saves me having to go into the Layer Properties Manager. So there's lots of useful tools here on the Layer pull-down menu. I'm just going to erase these objects here by using a Crossing Window Selection there, so Erase, Select and Enter and what I'm going to do now is on the M-OBJECTS Layer here, I'm going to place a Rectangle like so and then what I'm going to do now is go to M-DIMS and what I might want to place there is just purely a Linear Dimension quickly. So if I go Linear, make sure that my Object Snaps are on so I dimension accurately and there's some typical drafting that I might do. I've got a dimension on my Dimensions Layer; I've got an object on my Objects Layer. So if I hover over it there's M-OBJECTS there, if I hover over that it's on M-DIMS. So as you can see these layers are very useful, they allow you to distinguish objects but also work with your drawing and make your drawing look professional.
