Drafting Settings / ORTHO

Subtitles of the Movie

We're now going to look at the Ortho Setting in AutoCAD 2009. The Ortho Setting has been in AutoCAD for a long, long time, in many previous versions of AutoCAD and what we're going to do here is use the Status Bar and the Drafting Settings again. Down here we have the Ortho icon you'll notice, click on the Ortho icon or Ortho button depending on which versions of AutoCAD you're using. We're also going to switch on the Grid Display and the Snap Mode. I'm also going to right click now and go back to using icons because that is the default AutoCAD 2009. Notice we now have a grid but also notice if I try and draw a line now in AutoCAD I can only draw vertically and horizontally, I cannot go in any other direction apart from the X and Y directions like so. So we now have a drawing to work in and this is a very simple office space, notice some internal partitions has already been placed. What we're going to do is utilize the Grid and the Ortho Mode and the Snap Mode to place partitioning exactly horizontally and vertically by way of using the grid as our reference. This is purely by using the Line Command, so I click on the Line Command on the Ribbon as usual and I'm now going to place some partitioning, I'm going to replicate the partitioning above. There's my first piece of partitioning and now I use the Line Command again to come down and around the corner here and as you can see there I'm going to place some partitioning there like that so there's an opening near the window and also an opening in the top part of the partitioning. What we have there now are exact lines to exact spacing using the Snap and the Grid, but more importantly at exact angles due to the Ortho setting which allows us to purely work in the X and Y directions only.
