We're now going to look at the Rotate Copy Option in the Rotate Command in AutoCAD 2009. Now, what we're going to do first is we're going to do a Rotate Reference. Now, let's have a look at that now. Let's look at Rotate Reference again. So we select our chair, we right click and go to Rotate. AutoCAD prompts for a base point so we're back to the center of the table again here. So we left click and we don't specify a rotation angle yet. We press the Down Arrow on the keyboard and we select Reference. We then go from the center of the table to the back of the chair like we did before and this time I'm going to specify a new angle now of 180 degrees. So that places the chair at 180 degrees by way of the Polar angles in AutoCAD. I'm going to go down to the Status Bar here and switch Polar on. Now what we're going to do is we're going to use the Rotate Copy Option. I'm going to rotate but leave the original behind and create a copy. So let's do that. Let's select our chair, select Rotate on the Modify Panel and again it prompts for a base point. Again, we're going to use the center of the table. Left click. So now as you can see as I rotate round, I can actually do this like this. Look. If I drag along my 180-degree line like that, I can actually get a copy over on the right-hand side there, but it will not leave the original behind. So what I do is I press the Down Arrow and select Copy. Now what'll happen is if I drag along my Polar Tracking line, as you can see I'm dragging to the left there, left click. There's my rotated copy. Now, that's great because what that allows me to do is rotate but leave the original behind. Let's select both chairs this time and what we'll do this time is we'll go to Rotate again and the base point again will be the center snap of the table. So let's get the center snap. Left click. Now, as I move upwards, going through 90 degrees this time, can you see that I get two chairs at the twelve o'clock and the six o'clock positions. But this time what I'm going to do is press the Down Arrow and select Copy again and the rotate angle now, I can either do it using Polar Tracking or I can just type the angle in. I can even do it by eye if I need to, if I need a freehand one. But let's look at that Rotation Angle. Where do I want to rotate them? Maybe I should just do 45 degrees. If I do 45 degrees, look. It's 45 degrees there. So there, they're both at 45 degrees. Let's do another rotate now and let's have a look at this in a slightly different way. I'm going to select all four chairs this time and again I'm going to right click and rotate and I'm now going to select center of the table as the base point again. I'm going to press the Down Arrow and select Copy. Now look, as I go around, look. If I go up by 90 degrees, look what happens. My entire table is surrounded by chairs. If I go out this way, downwards, again, surrounded by chairs. So I've obviously got to go either to 70 degrees or 90 degrees. Let's just track up using the Polar 90 degrees and left click. It leaves the originals behind and creates a rotated copy. I now have my chairs around my meeting table in my meeting room all set up using purely the Rotate Command.
