The COPY Command / Copy Selection - Object Snaps
Subtitles of the Movie
We're now going to look at the Copy Commands in AutoCAD 2009. Now, the Copy Command has two methods in AutoCAD. You have Copy to the Windows Clipboard. You also have the Copy Selection Command. We're going to first look at the Copy Selection Command. Now, the Copy Selection Command again is on the Home Tab on the Modify Panel and it's this command here. Now, I also have Copy available to me on the right-hand Shortcut Menu. Let's use the panel on the ribbon first through. Let's go for Copy Selection here, come into the drawing area. At the Selection Objects Prompt I left click on my Telephone Block here. So I left click on the block and select it as a whole object. I can either right click or press Enter to confirm and like the Move Command in the previous exercises, it asks for a base point. But this time you're leaving the original object behind and placing a copy somewhere else on the drawing. So my base point is going to be my end point snap here. So I make sure that my O Snaps are on like so. So my end point is on. I can see that there so I'll press Escape just to deselect that menu. I also need to make sure that my Polar is on so we're going to click on Polar and switch that on. You'll see why in a second. I selected this base point here. So I left click to get the end point. Now when I move you'll notice I have a copy sitting on the AutoCAD crosshair there. But if I want that in line with my other phone, my Polar Tracking now kicks in. So I drag my telephone down the Polar Tracking Line like so and left click. However, I'm now available to copy another telephone. So let's place another telephone going in this direction and left click again. I now have three phones on the desk. To come out of the Copy Selection Command like this, you just press Enter. And as you can see now, I've got two copies of the original object using Copy Selection and Object Snaps. Now, what I could also do there if I wanted to copy my chair, I could click on my chair again, but this time what I could do now is I could right click and I've got Copy Selection again available here on the Shortcut Menu. So if I click Copy Selection now and select let's say the midpoint on the front of the chair there, I now am able to commence the same process. There's another chair there so I'll left click and as you can see, I can just left click and place that copy just with a mouse click. I do not have to specify a coordinate. I do not have to specify an Object Snap. And again, I press Enter to finish. And there is my second copied chair. Now, I don't actually physically need that chair so I can click on it, select it and click on Erase here on the Modify Panel. So that now covers Copy Selection using Object Snaps on the Modify Panel in the Home Tab.
