Basic Drawing Skills / Creating Basic Objects pt. 3

Subtitles of the Movie

Having placed one rectangle we're now going to place another one for setting out of our nuts and bolts on our mechanical bracket. We're going to go to the Rectangle Command, again on the Draw Panel and we're going to hover over the circle until we get the center snap like so, left click. Coming off of that center snap now you can see our rectangle as we move the mouse. The other corner point there we're going to type in the coordinates this time. So in the X value box we're going to type in 75, hit the Comma Key or the Tab Key and then we're going to put in 70 for the Y Value. That means that our rectangle will now move 75 along horizontally to the right and 70 up. So when I press Enter you can see the rectangle has gone along to the right and upwards to form a rectangle in that position. We're now going to place a polygon around our circle and we're going to place a circumscribed polygon which goes around the existing circle. The Polygon Command here is on the Draw Panel and the number of sides, well its going to be a hexagon so we need 6, so type in 6 for the number of sides and press Enter. The center of the polygon is going to be the end point here on our rectangle. So we left click on the End Point Snap and then we get the option, Inscribed or Circumscribed? We want a Circumscribed Polygon and as you can see that forms the polygon around the circle and the radius of the circle forming the polygon is going to be 8 and then we press Enter. So what we've got there now is a nut and bolt arrangement represented by our circle and our hexagon. The last thing we need to do now is we need to copy our circle and our hexagon around that smaller rectangle using the corner points. We could do that using the Copy Selection Command on the Modify panel. So we go up here to the Modify Panel, there's Copy there, we click on Copy and come into the drawing area, we need to select our objects that we want to copy. Well that's easy; we click once on the Hexagon, we click once on the Circle using our left click on the mouse. We then right click on the mouse to confirm our selection or you can press Enter. We now need to specify our base point that we're moving from, that's very easy, it's the center of our existing circle and hexagon formed by the corner of the rectangle here. So we click on the End Point Snap, left click and now what we've got to do is left click on each corner of the rectangle, left click like so, left click there, left click there, we then press Enter to finish our Copy Command. We've now placed our nuts and bolts, we can now erase, so click on Erase here on the Modify Panel, our rectangle here, we click on our rectangle by left clicking, Enter to confirm and our rectangle is erased. You have now finished your creating basic objects exercise.
