Up until now we have had all of our text styles and fonts and font heights set for us in this particular chapter. What we're going to do now is look at changing those. Now if we look at this particular drawing we're in the Model Tab down here and looking at the text its actually quite an old fashioned AutoCAD text, its actually an SHX text style called text.shx and it's the virtually the first ever font that AutoCAD ever had when AutoCAD used to run on Dos and earlier versions of AutoCAD on windows. Now what we now have because of the way that AutoCAD works we can utilize all the windows, printer drivers, the Microsoft Drivers, so we can use all the true type fonts, the TTF fonts available to use in Windows. So if I now go to my Annotate Tab here and I'm in my Text Panel here, you'll notice we have a standard text style. If I move to the right of that you've got an A with a Paintbrush, click on it and that is your Text Style Manager where you can add new text styles and edit existing text styles. So there's our standard text style there and the standard style cannot be renamed as you can see by me clicking on it. However we can change the font name here so I click on the Down Arrow to look at the list, now you'll notice the SHX files have that funny little compass symbol next to them, the true type fonts have the TT next to them, so the True Type Fonts or the Window Star Fonts. Now I'm going to select Verdana there, notice the preview bottom left here, look how much nicer that looks then the TXT shape code font. All I'm going to do now is set the height there 0 and then what'll happen now because the height is set to 0 every time I place Single Line Text on their drawing using this text style AutoCAD will prompt me for the height of the text. All I'm going to do now is apply that and close and look at the difference to that text. It's a massive difference; it looks much, much more presentable. Now you'll notice some of the text here if I click on it, its Multi Lined Text, if I click on one of the right or left grips and drag inwards can you see the text change? It goes above and below each other, that's because the area that the Multi Line Text is fitting into is made smaller. I can now click on this middle grip here and just place that text a little bit more neatly and hit Escape above the room number like so. You'll notice this one has already been done here for example and I can click on the grip again, just tidy that up slightly, hit Escape and you can see that I can tidy up this drawing quite easily like that. Now, the other thing that we can look at now is creating New Text Styles. Now what we're going to do now, we're going to go back to the Text Style Manager Here and we're going to create a New Text Style by clicking on the new button and the new style name is going to be Title Block. Now a little trick here to get into is if you're going to use it on the title block that means its going to be in the Layout Space and its going to be a certain height. So what I'm going to do is put an underscore and put Layout so I that I know only to use it in the Layout Space and then another underscore and I'm going to make it 6.5 millimeters like that. So when I click on OK now, you'll see that my style there says Title Block, Layout Space, 6.5 millimeters high. I'm going to go into the height here and put 6.5 as the height, I'm also going to change the font. Now a little trick here, I'm right down in the V's at the moment for the Verdana Font, if I press A it takes me to the first font that begins with A, if I keep pressing A it will go to each subsequent font beginning with A. Keep doing that and then you'll find your arial font there, I'm going to go for Font Style of Bold Italic and there's my preview there. What I do now is I'm going to apply that particular text style, it wont affect any text at the moment because it hasn't been used yet, but I'm also going to set it as the current text style as well for any subsequent text that I place on the drawing, remember now though that the height will always be 6.5 millimeters, click on Close. I'm now going to go into my Layout 1 Tab and there's my Title Block, I'm now going to Zoom in on my Title Block here and I'm going to change these bits of text here. If I click on them their Multi Line Text but you will notice that they using the standard text style there. I click on the Down Arrow now and I select my Title Block text Style here, notice them update on the drawing, I hit escape to deselect and I can now save my drawing. That is how you create text styles in AutoCAD.
