New to AutoCAD is a DWG to PDF driver that allows you to create PDF driver that allows you to create PDF documents from your AutoCAD drawing files. The PDF format is a standard format used globally by organizations to exchange files electronically. For architects the benefit is that the client can now view and print the files using the freely available Adobe Reader. Printing services are now requiring PDF documents from architects instead of the classic AutoCAD plot files. To print PDF documents, you simply print files like you would to any printer, the difference is that a file is created instead of a drawing on a sheet paper. Let me demonstrate, I will click on the plot icon, from the plot dialog box I already have the DWG to PDF PC3 file selected. I have all of the settings the way I want them and I will now preview the file. This is how it will appear as a PDF document. I can click on the plot icon now or I can close the preview window, make additional changes and then click on the OK button which I will do now. I am going to save this plot file, it is a PDF document and I'm simply going to get rid of the text that reads model. So this will be saved as XELVE.PDF, it indicates that I already have a file that exists with the exact same name and I can click OK to overwrite the file. If I want I can check this box and not be warned before overriding a plot file. I prefer to always see the warning and then make my decision. I will now click OK, the file has been created, I will now go back to Adobe reader, go to file open and from the desktop select the elevation. And this is the file, I can pan around or I can click on this icon which is very similar to zoom extents. I can now go to view, down to rotate view and select counter clockwise. In my opinion architectural firms would benefit by upgrading to Adobe acrobat professional. Let me close Adobe Reader, once again this is a free download from Adobe's website and now let me launch Adobe Acrobat 7. This is an older version but I can still use it to demonstrate the advantages. I will go to file, open, back to the desktop, select the elevation, I can rotate the page and now I can go to document and select insert pages. I'll select X-plan and for now I will place it after the existing page. If I click on the pages tab, I have the floor plan and I have the elevation. If I wanted to change the order I can simply click and drag to the other location. Now I have the floor plan first, followed by the elevation. I will now go to file and select save as and simply give this a different file name now that it contains 2 drawings. For the client I would email this document which contains the two PDF documents as opposed to emailing two separate files. I hope you can see the advantages of Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe reader. Either way AutoCAD has the ability to generate PDF documents and that is a great advantage for architects and for clients.
