Just like you can clip external references in model space, there is also the ability to clip view ports in the layouts. With clipped view ports you can create a drawing similar to the one you see on the screen. Let me control tab to an earlier version of this drawing and demonstrate the view port clip command. I created a new layer and named it V-clips, this is the layer I would use to create the closed polylines representing the view port clips. If I want I can set the layer to do not plot or let it plot to add a nice effect to the presentation drawing. As you can see I created the template for myself here and then I used the view ports and began using the command. Now to clip a view port you can type VP clip at the command line and enter or you can go to modify, clip and click on view port. Finally I can right click any icon and open the view ports tool bar and select the icon that reads clip existing view port and I will use that one in just moment. I will begin to use the command once I have taken this polyline and placed it over the view port. I will click on the move icon, select the object and enter and move it from this endpoint and place it at that endpoint. And now I will click on the icon that reads clip existing view port. I am prompted to select the view port to clip first, so I am going to click on the view port, without having to enter I am prompted to clipping object so I am going to select this 2D polyline and just like that I have clipped the view port to that shape. I will come over here and repeat the command. Selecting the icon and now selecting the view port to clip first, I will select this view port, immediately after that I need to select the clipping object, in this case the object is a circle and I can use a circle or a closed 2D polyline to create the view port clip. I will now click on the circle and I have clipped the view port. Let me move this view port off to the left hand side, zoom in on it and use the command once again. I now select the view port to clip and immediately after that I need to select the clipping object or since I do not have a clipping object I am going to enter and I am going to draw a polygon. I am going to turn ortho off and O-snap off. I will now type C for close and enter. I have created the view port clip and it is based on a polygon, I can now grip the polygon and stretch the grip points and the view port adjusts to that shape. I am going to tap the escape key and go back to the command and this time I am going to select the view port to clip. I select this object and I am now going to use the delete option, so I am going to type D and enter and I have deleted that view port clip. I will now control tab and go back to the drawing that is already completed. I am going to close this toolbar and I am going to open the properties window. I want to show you that if you needed to or wanted to change the scale of the view port or simply just select the view port itself you can grip the object and the properties window will show that you have 2 objects selected, what you can do at this point is go to that control and simply select the view port and at this point you can make changes, just to the view port without affecting the clip. I'll tap the escape key, close the window, zoom extents and go ahead and plot this drawing out. I will click on preview and show you the end results. In this view port here in order to see inside of the model I went ahead and froze the layers that were above it. Let me right click and exit and show you what I mean. I am going to double click on the view port and show you that I froze the 3D ceiling layer and the 3D roof and gutter layer. This drawing will be included in the tutorial.
