Drawing Tips / Intro to Tool Palettes
Subtitles of the Movie
What can I say regarding tool palettes? Only that if you have not committed to this organizational tool you should begin to use it now and abandon older habits. It has taken me some time to adjust but I have been able to use tool palettes to improve my drawing efficiency. Here then is a brief overview. To open the tool palettes I can select the icon or I can use the keyboard shortcut control 3 or I can go to the tools pull down menu, go down to palettes, over and down to tool palettes. This is the tool palettes window, I currently have it with the auto hide feature turned on, I'm going to right click that and turn off auto hide. I can resize the window and I can right click and anchor to the left or to the right of my screen. Now all of the icons you see are referred to as tools, even though some maybe commands, hatches or blocks. I'm still getting comfortable with the terminology so I may switch around my wording and refer to them as tools or simply fall back and refer to them as commands. The tools that you see are available to draw, for example I can click on this tool and begin drawing lines. I can also create my own personalized tools and I'm going to do that now by right clicking on the window, selecting new palettes and typing in a new name and now I enter and I have my new VTC palettes. I'd like to add tools to this palette, let me show you how easy that is. I'm going to come in right here, I'm going to highlight this dimension, once it is highlighted I'm going to click, drag and drop into my new VTC palette. I'm going to zoom out, cycle to another drawing using the control tab, keyboard shortcut and now to place a linear dimension in this drawing, I can simply select the tool, place my dimension and there it is. Now I'm going to zoom in closely right here and I'd like to take this hatch and convert it to a tool. It is now highlighted, I'm going to click, drag and drop. I now have a new tool. You'll notice that the hatch exists on the A Hat layer. I'm going to right click, user defined and rename this, I'll call it hatch. I could have also right clicked that and selected properties, there is the name hatch and the description; this will be a four inch brick hatch. Select ok. I'm going to cycle to a new drawing here, draw a rectangle and now take my hatch as you can see it indicates four inch brick hatch, click, drag and drop. The hatch is placed in there and so is the layer. Once again a brief introduction, a quick introduction and I will continue to use my tool palettes as I continue to draw through out the tutorial.
