Autodesk AutoCAD 2007 for Architects Tutorials

CAD Drawings / Introducing Illustrator

Subtitles of the Movie

I have always enjoyed adding color to printed drawing files with Adobe Illustrator I can do the same without worrying about making a minor mistake and having to start from scratch. Since Illustrator is becoming popular with architectural firms I will demonstrate how you can start using this vector based program to add color to your AutoCAD files. This is a brief introduction, later in this tutorial I will explain more in detail about the program. I am now going to open an EPS file that I created and there it is, I'm going to double click on the title bar to maximize the window. I will now select the zoom tool, I can also type Z to activate it and if I click once I am zooming into the image. If I hold down the alt key I can zoom out, click on it again. I can also hold down the spacebar and this is very similar to panning the drawing as I click and drag my mouse button. And I can also click and drag and release the mouse, this is very similar to doing a zoom window in AutoCAD. I am going to select the image and I will now select the live paint bucket, my current fill color is white, I'm going to come over to the swatches and select red. I can now click to make a live paint group. If I tap on the caps lock key you can see that it is a paint bucket but I'm going to tap it again so that I can use the cursor to pick inside of the walls, very much like a hatch. And as you can see as I click it is filling in the walls with the red color. When I'm ready to terminate this process I will go back to the selection tool and click away from the object. And now if I pan it just a little bit right there, you can see just how easy it is to add color. Later in the tutorial I'll add some more effects and add some text, but for now I'd like to click on file and save as from an EPS file to an native illustrator file, simply click on save, as you can see the extension is a I. The current version is Illustrator CS2, if you are working with an older version you will not have the live paint bucket option. I'm going to click OK, and now I can close this out and come back to it later.
