When you create items in Max one of the things that you're going to want to do is apply something called a Modifier to make certain tasks a lot easier. For example how awesome would it be to create a model that melts or that can bend or do all kinds of cool stuff and still be completely animatable. Well when we create an object we can then go to from Object Creation to this guy right here called Modify. And you'll see that we have a Modifier List and of course when I click on it, it's going to be empty because we don't have anything in our scene just yet. And we're also going to have this ability to create a stack of Modifiers that could be rearranged, turned off or on and that kind of thing. So let's go ahead and create a guinea pig, I'm going to go to my Modeling Tab and I'm going to create, let's see here, a cylinder and let's just go ahead and draw a cylinder out and I'm going to right-click to accept that and as you could see. I'll go ahead and zoom in all these guys, I have quite a few segments and these segments will give me a lot of control. I'm also going to go down here and I'm going to turn on my Edged Faces. So now that we have an object, we can go to our Modify and when we go to our list all of a sudden we'll have things in there after we select our object. So keep in mind that you have to select things. So I'll go ahead and click on our object, now it says Cylinder in our little stack here and now I have ton of objects that appear in here all of a sudden. These are the many Modifiers that we can apply so I'm going to start with Bend because it's the easiest one to understand and it's the easiest one to quickly apply. So when we apply a Bend Modifier you'll see that it goes on top of our object and it lives in the stack. The way this list is going to wind up is bottom to top, so you'll have your object, then you'll have one Modifier and on top of that another Modifier and so on. So I'm going to go ahead and grab this Angle guy here, I'm going to go ahead and slide my mouse up and check it out, we have ourselves a Slinky or a Macaroni or a worm or whatever you want to have there and you can just make him dance, you know. You can also choose a Direction so I'll go ahead and angle him off this way and I'll change the direction. Now one of the cool things about Modifiers is that they are non-destructive which means they don't permanently damage or apply themselves to your object. So I can go here to this little light switch and turn that guy off but the cool thing is you'll still see the Modifier inside of our scene, it's no longer controlling our object though. So I'll go ahead and turn it back on. So what I'm going to do is show you that I can add another Modifier to this stack here. So let me find something cool, let me just go here real fast and I'll grab the Melt and just like before it winds up in the stack and I have a bunch of parameters that I can apply. So I'll go ahead and Melt this object and then I'll go ahead and unmelt it. Now you'll notice that we have two Modifiers, we have Melt and we have Bend. So I'll go ahead and turn Melt off and I'll go ahead and turn Bend off. So they happen in the order in this list so our object is first affected by Bend and then by Melt. So I'll go ahead and click and drag Bend to the top of the stack so Melt will happen first and then Bend will follow. This is our Modifier Stack, so what happens if you don't want a Modifier? Well you have a little Garbage Can right here and you can just simply select the Modifier and click on the Garbage Can and he's gone. So you know only use that if you really need to because as you could see, I can simply turn that guy off or on and that is a quick look at the Modifier Stack.
