Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie we'll start talking about the Volume Light Effect inside 3ds Max. The Volume Light is a really cool Effect Ð when the light interacts with your Atmosphere like Smog or Smoke. So if you wanted to show a Light Ray especially in Max this is a really cool Effect to use. So I have a very simple scene called Volume Light dot Max opened up. It's a simple Wall, a Floor, another Wall over here, the Window. Let's go to our Front view in this case. And also I'm going to go to the Wireframe Mode. Let's go to Lights. Under Standard I'm going to make a simple Target Spot like so. Let's select the Target and the Spotlight, both of them. And in this case I'm also going to right-click on the Front view label and go to Spot01. So right now I'm looking at the Light from the Spotlight view. I'm looking at the scene from the Spotlight view. So also let's go back over here. I deselected the Light. Let's go back and select them. And let's Pan a little bit. Let's go back to Select By Name, and let's select just the Spot01. I'm going to come down over here and use a Rectangular Spot. Let's decrease the Hotspot in this case. Show Cone, also some other things. I'm going to give the Light some Color, a little harsh color in this case, a little too much orange. Take the Multiplier slightly down, let's say point 8. Let's start with that. Let's go back to the Front view with the Light selected I'm also going to take down the Falloff now and you can see I'm trying to get the Falloff with this little brown area, which is my Windows right there. Let's come down. Let's go to the Camera view. With the Light still selected let's go all the way down to the Atmospheres and Effects Rollout. Let's go to Add, Add a Volume Light. Click on the Volume Light, go to Setup. It's already added right now within the Environment and Effects dialog box, so let's Render this. And this is what my Light looks like right now. It's really very, very bright. So let's play around with this. First thing I'm going to go to Multiplier and take it down. So how about point 2 and let's see if that helps. There you go, that helped a little. Also one more thing, if you wanted to see Rays right now there's a nice little trick. I'm going to go to Projector Map, click on the button None, and apply a Noise in this case. Let's go to the Materials Editor and drag and drop this Noise in one of the Slots and say Instance so that if I change anything here it's going to update on the Projector Map. Let's quickly Render this without changing the Settings and you can see all the Noise patterns within the Spotlight right now. I'm going to go back to the Noise over here. I'm going to say under Source, Explicit Map Channel, turn it to Fractal, and I like the value to start with really low. Let's go here and you can see nice Light Rays. Now if you think these are too crisp just keep playing around with these settings till you're satisfied and you get a nice little look for your rays. So how about point zero 2. So really fine, the Noise over there, and you can see. How about increasing that? How about point zero 9? And there we go. Some nice little rays. So that's really what's there to the Volume Light. It's really a cool effect so start playing with it and also remember how I did the Projector Map, which was really a cool effect to get all these rays.
