Now, another very common item that we insert into Pages documents is going to be a header and a footer and that's text that's going to appear at the top and the bottom of every page in your document and one of the ways we can work with that is as you may have just seen. All I have to do is hover my mouse at the top or bottom or in the header and footer sections of the document and I can start typing what I want in that header or footer field. So if I want something, you know, Brian Culp, the author and I can tab if I want to hit. The tab, the default tab stop for headers and footers is on the right-hand side, so it'll right justify the next text if I hit tab and I can put today's date or I can insert a field if I want to, insert date and time, page number if I want to. And I can insert, again, just about anything I want to. If I want more space I can hit return, I can make the text bigger, I could use any of the tips and tricks that we've learned so far for formatting text. Another way to deal with your headers and footers is to click on this view button in the standard toolbar and show the layout and that makes dealing with the text or elements in head and footer maybe even more easier. So I'll set my insertion point here and again, you have the ability to insert just about anything you want to. Now, if I go to the standard toolbar, let's say I want the company logo and I'll just substitute a shape for the company log. If I insert, let's say a quote box or a star, it goes in as a floating object and remember that lesson or those things that we talked about in module number four. I'm going to make this go away with a command Z and we'll go back up to the header and now I'm going to do the same thing except I'm going to insert a shape. Shape, oval and now I can resize it but notice now that my text is inline. So if I want to adjust it around, I have a couple of options. I can grab it and drag it around, but that just changes it. It's still an inline object so all I've done is move it from inline in the header to inline in the body of the document itself. I could change it to a floating object and move it around or I could set my insertion point there, which I've done. I've selected the object, I hit the left arrow on the keyboard and then I could do things like add spaces and tabs and move the object around that way. With the object selected, again I can change it to a floating object if I wanted to. I can put a reflection if I want to and do any of the things that I can do working with shapes anywhere else in the document. The only difference now is that now this shape that's part of the header is now in every page of the document. One last item to keep in mind; if you want to adjust where those headers appear by default, go back to the inspector, the document inspector that we dealt with in the previous module and again, you can make the footers disappear all together and indeed, my footer is gone just as I've told Pages to do and I can move the header down the page if I want to. I can insert it an inch down into the page rather than the default, which is a half-inch down into the page. So those are the ways that I will adjust the header and footer information, their placement and their contents. And again, keep in mind as you have seen here, that if I delete the footer and then add it back again, any content that was in that footer goes away.
