Now, in this module we will look at adding a chart from another application and that application specifically is Numbers, which is set up more specifically to deal with raw information. Now, to get rid of a chart, by the way, from a slide all you have to do is select it and then hit the delete key as you might suspect, but the information that was used to generate that chart is gone as well. So do keep that in mind and keep in mind that Keynote really isn't a data management or storage application. Again, it translates ideas and thoughts and sometimes numbers into pictures. That's its main objective. So if you're storing your numbers, you raw information in an application like Numbers, you might have something like this and you might be giving a speech or presentation about loan comparisons. So this is where you're keeping track of different types of loans and the effect of annual percentage rates. Now, what I want you to recall or understand is that, and this is kind of a caveat for this whole operation, is that I can make a change here. Now watch what happens to my monthly payment. It goes from 747 if I lower the interest rate down to 732. That also was reflected down here. So if I change this to ten percent, my mortgage payment for loan three will go up. So can I take this chart and use it as part of my presentation? Well, let's give it a try. Let's just do edit and we will copy it and then we'll switch over to Keynote once again and in this slide I will do a paste operation. And there's my monthly payments. So is it just where I want it to be? No, not really but it's an object. I can resize that object and reposition it as I please. So there's the 761 that's kind of the focus of our attention right now and here's the caveat that I need to warn you about. Again, Keynote is, deals with pictures and graphics and things like that and the two applications can certainly share information, but it's not a seamless integration and here's what I mean. If I go back over here and change this interest rate to, say, 20, not 1200. Let's try 20. Ok. This mortgage payment now is going to be 913. So what do you think will happen if we go back over to Keynote? It's still 761. So we'll have to do this. We'll have to copy and there I just did a command C and here I'll just delete what's already there. Oops. I didn't select the chart correctly. And I'll do a paste operation and so if we want to have the latest information that's generated from our spreadsheet over here, or the table in a spreadsheet more specifically, these two things are tied together in Numbers. In Keynote, it's not linked together. This chart is not linked with the table that exists in Numbers. So that's what I want you to be aware of. You do need to keep that in mind to have the latest information. Now, that doesn't mean that this doesn't have some back-end data that you can edit. So give this a control click for example and show the data editor. You can still just make manual calculations or manual updates to your chart. So if you want to lower this to 750, something like that, then indeed the chart will update itself just like we learned in the previous module. But again, Keynote gets its chart information from Keynote tables. Numbers gets its chart information dynamically based on Numbers tables. Keep that in mind and you'll be good to go.
