Now, we'll pretty much pick up where we left off in the previous module as we deal with text boxes and one of the places you're much more likely to see text boxes and work with them is in something called, as I create a new document from a template chooser here, I'm going to create a page layout type of a document. You have two categories of templates here; word processing templates and page layout templates and there's no really difference as far as the technology. It's not like they're different file extensions or different files that you deal with when you're dealing with one or the other. It's just that the templates are generally, if you're dealing with a word processing template, is generally built more for just handling text. If you scroll down and look at your envelopes and invoices and your faxes, you're dealing mostly with big blocks of words. Page layout templates, on the other hand, are more graphics or picture based, so they're newsletters, they're brochures, they're posters and so on. So I'm going to just select one of my page layout ones and that's where, again, the reason why I'm doing it in this module is to show you in a little more detail what you can expect when working with text boxes. You'll see a lot of text boxes in these, what am I looking for here? Do I want a flier? Yeah, let's go with a, let's go with the newsletter. Let's do a real estate newsletter and click on choose. So you're going to see a lot more of these text boxes in use so it's important to understand how they're used and how you can manipulate their use if you want to change the layout of your document. So let's say we're building a real estate newsletter here or any kind of newsletter. This big block of text is one big text box and it's a text box that includes three different columns. We'll talk about creating columns later on. Now, I've selected this text box and watch what I can do. I can resize it certainly and just like before, we see this little indicator, the plus indicator means that's there more text to be seen from this text box. So I'm going to go ahead and reshow the text that's in here. You also have the text box handles that let you link text boxes. Now, there's nothing really to link it to, but let me add a new page here and this is another thing that you'll see in a lot of your page layout templates is the ability to add other pages by choosing one of your predefined template pages here that is incorporated into the bigger template. So we have a cover page and let's just say we have the inside two column and sidebar. Now I've added this second page and again, it's just placeholder text boxes, placeholder pictures and what I'm going to see here is that I have another text box right there. So if I want to, I can add text here. Let's just say that this is all stuff that I've already typed and I continue to add, I don't even care about the spelling or anything, add text to this column and what happens to it? And I'm just typing gibberish right now. So again, I see that. So if I want that text that's in this column to spill into, as a reader turns a page, down here, all I have to do is link the two text boxes. So bingo and now I can again, click another text box to link it. So why don't I link it to that one? So now there's the relationship and there is the stuff that I was typing. Continue to add text to this column and gibberish, gibberish. So again, now you've linked it and now you're really starting to leverage the power of the text boxes and you can feel free to resize them. I want to add another picture. That picture's going to make some text move around. Maybe I want to resize this. It's a nice picture. I'm going to make this bigger. It's going to shove text around etcetera and you can see that's exactly what happened, but with the text boxes linked, that text just, again, spills into whatever is linked. I can move it around and as you can see, it's pretty intuitive. Now, if I ever want to break the relationship between any two text boxes and you can see that I get the graphical indicator of the blue line between the two, all I have to do is grab the blue line and just drag it somewhere else besides the text box itself. So you can see that when I let go anywhere other than that blue endpoint, I'm going to get the smoke cloud and poof, the relationship disappears. Now I have, again, something that has caused problems because of the reformatting I've done, but of course, it's fixable through many of the techniques that we've learned already. So that is your overview on text boxes. It's really kind of a, there's two separate modules but there's one big subject on text boxes and now you should have a leg up to use them in your documents as well.
