Subtitles of the Movie

iPhoto makes the creation of Slideshows pretty easy. The cool thing about a slideshow is you can show people on your computer or you can even export your slideshow as a QuickTime Movie. Let me give you a quick look at a slideshow that I created a little while ago. Here it is, and I'm going to go ahead and press Play. As you can see there are transitions and I actually have music playing but I don't have it turned On because I want you to focus on the slideshow at the moment, but I'm going to show you how to add your own music anyway. So, the first thing we have to do, of course, is choose some images. So with this selected, this Event, I can then go to the little Plus sign down here and I can choose to create a New Slideshow. Now what you can do is choose Use Selected Items in the New Slideshow and I'm going to call this Slideshow 2 since I already made one based on this, then I'll click Create. In a moment you'll see that we have the images for our Slideshow appear up here and we have a preview area down here. You also have a Preview button right here that will allow you to see your Slideshow, and a Play button. Now, the reason the images are up here is because you can click and drag to rearrange them so they make more sense. So I have all the tanks up front and now I have the air units. I can also use this to show Before and Afters of different things. So here's the model, here is the finished model, and that kind of thing. It's really up to you what you want to do with your Slideshow. I like to use them to show people the progress I'm making on certain things. Alright. Now that I have my slides arranged the way that makes me happy I can then choose to go right here and click on Music. The Music Settings Sheet appears and I can choose theme music that has been provided by Apple. So you can click on any of these guys right here and if you want to hear what it sounds like, simply click right here, and then you'll hear the song. Just press it again, the little Play button and it will stop. Likewise, you can go through your entire Library, or you can go through your GarageBand music. Whatever music you have you can find it. Then, when you're happy click Apply. You can also go to the little Settings Gear here and with this, what you can do, is you can choose to play each slide for a minimum of how many seconds. Currently mine is at the 5 seconds, but I can use this little guy here to make that longer or shorter. You can even hold your mouse down to scroll more quickly through the time. It tells you the music will repeat for as long as the slides play. You can also choose to fit the slideshow to the music, which means that the slide durations will automatically be adjusted to match your music length. You can turn this guy on to Add Duration Transitions. So what you can do then is choose the type of Transition you want and you get a preview right here. Let me go ahead and go to Random. And then you can choose None, of course, Cube, Dissolve, Fade-through Black, Flip, and of course, you can go through these yourself. There are quite a few. You can also adjust the speed of that transition. If you want the captions of your images to show, click here and then you can choose to show whatever you have there. You can also show the Title Slide. You can also Repeat the Slideshow, and, if necessary, Scale the photos to fit the screen. This may or may not work to your benefit because if you really blow an image up it may look a little pixelated, so use it at your discretion. Once you've made your settings you can then preview your Slideshow and when you're finished and you want to share it with everybody click Export, right here, then you can choose to export your slideshow to MobileMe and it tells you the size that each one of these guys is good for. The little dots appear under where you can show these with a comfortable playback. So if you're going to put it on your iPod it suggests the medium, Apple TV, Computer, and MobileMe. If you're going to go for a very large display you'll notice that it suggests only your computer, and this is the resolution. So be careful with what you choose here. The larger file size the larger your slideshow. If you want to create a custom export, which is what I did when I showed you that slideshow, I click this button here and then I can choose to save this to my Desktop, or wherever I want to, and I can choose the format, so I can save it as a QuickTime Movie, MPEG4, right to the iPod, and all kinds of other options. Then you click Save once you've made your selection. If you want to go even further and tweak it, click Options. Here you can choose the settings for your Video, the Compressor type, the Frame Rate, the Quality, you can do a lot of things here. You can also change the Size, and, pretty important, the Sound settings. This is 44.100 kilohertz. This is pretty much CD quality, but it also takes a lot more time to compress, so what I like to do is go to the IMA 4:1, and then I just go ahead and make this 22; sometimes I leave it at 44, but I'll drop these down typically to 22, like so, which cuts that in half. You can also leave it on Stereo or Mono, and then hit OK, and then if you want to stream when it's playing on the Internet, you can click this. Once all Setting is done, you click OK and then iPhoto will compress everything and give you a QuickTime Movie that you can then share with other people. So that is how easy it is to create a Slideshow using iPhoto.
