OK, by now you know that you can Rate your images with stars, you can add Keywords to them, you can organize them in Events, and iPhoto also keeps track of all the dates on your images, but how do you actually find these things based on that criteria? Well, this little Search Field down here is your best friend when you want to find things. You can click on this little Key symbol, or whatever symbol you see. It changes based on what you click on, so date you see a Calendar, for Keywords you see a Key symbol, and for All you get all these guys here, and for Star you get a Star symbol, and that allows you to also click and drag your mouse to find a 5 Stars, your 4, your 3, your 2's and your 1's. Really handy. And then when you finish you click this X here and that pretty much clears that out and lets you start again. So let's say I want to search for the Keywords. In the last lesson we assigned New Jersey, London, and Movie. So I'll go ahead and click Keyword and here they are: New Jersey, Movie, London, plus other ones that I may have added and then others that have come preinstalled with iPhoto. So, I'm going to go ahead and click on New Jersey. Great. Now, let's say I want to go and check the ones for London, so how do I get rid of New Jersey and search for London? Well, if I click on London you'll notice that since I don't have photographs that have both Keywords applied to them I get nothing, so I can easily change this search by clicking on just one. For example, if I click on New Jersey, click on it one more time to clear it out, and then click on the new thing. So, here's London, click on London again, then go to Movie and then click on it again to clear that out. So, that's a really great way to do that. Now let's go ahead and search by Date. And let's search for July. These are July Ð that's cool. These are June Ð awesome. And, we can also search as you saw by Rating and All, that allows us to do a Name Search for example. Now I have some images in here of Morgan Freeman, so I'll type Morgan and see if he's still in there Ð be good if I spelled it right, there we go Ð and that is how easy it is as long as you help iPhoto out, which means this doesn't work unless you write things, unless you name things, and of course, if you have a camera that will allow you to do other things like keep track of Places by using a GPS system, and using Faces. If you don't do those things then this Search Field is not really going to help you out. So every once in a while when you bring in new information into iPhoto, take a couple of moments to give it some information that will help you find it in the future.
