iTunes / The Interface

Subtitles of the Movie

Welcome to iTunes and what we're going to do here is take a tour of the interface. One thing about the iLife suite is that it follows pretty much the same kind of arrangement where you have a source list of some kind and then you have the tools that correspond with that. So let's go ahead and get started. On the top of the interface you will find the traditional menu bar where you can access many of the features that the buttons in the actual tools will allow you to do as well. So a lot of these buttons here will do the same thing you can see up here. Here we have our play, our buttons, so if I choose a song, I can play it, I can stop it and that kind of thing. So let me just choose something from Baby Face here and if I want this song to play, all I have to do is press this button. And I can go back and I can go to the next song. So I'll go ahead and double click and I can just cycle my songs this way and I currently, by the way, don't have the actual volume for the songs up so that you can just hear me talking instead of being interrupted by the music. So the audio is not actually up for the songs at the moment. So I can cycle with these buttons here. I can play and stop here. As you see, I have a pause button and I can also control my volume with this slider. If you have a keyboard that has a volume button for audio, you can control that as well on your keyboard. Here we have a display that tells us the name of the song, the artist and the album and the duration of the track. I can also click here to see a little equalizer kind of thing. So once again, you won't hear any audio for this but you will see the equalizer kind of effect going on there. I can look at my view in different ways as well. So I have a list view and I also have this item here, which allows me to see any album artwork associated with this and I can also see the view that allows us to do our cover flow. I can do any searches here in this search field. So I could search my library from all, artist, album and name. Down here I can see I have a button that has several segments to it. So the first one allows us to create a brand-new playlist. This guy here allows us to toggle our shuffle. And here we can repeat a playlist once or just have it loop and what we can do with this guy is we can see any cover artwork and it only shows up when it's playing. So let me go ahead and play a song and let me see if I can find an album that actually hasÉ There we go. So when you're playing a song, the cover artwork will show up for you. Down here we are able to see what's in out playlist so we can see how many songs are in this playlist, the total playing time for this playlist and how many megabytes it's taking up. So if you go to the very beginning of your library, you might find that you have days and days of music. We can burn a CD here. What we can do with this guy is go to a quick browse and this button here will allow you to eject a CD that you have inside of your computer. So this is the iTunes interface and we will learn more about it as we learn more about this tool that you can use to manage your music, your videos and even some cover artwork.
