iPhoto / Events pt. 1
Subtitles of the Movie
The introduction of iLife '08 brings with it a new way to sort your images in iPhoto and that is what an event is. You'll find them at the top of the interface here on the left-hand side and when I put my mouse over it, I can see how many events I have. Now, let's talk about what an event actually is. Events are an intelligent way to sort your images based on when you took the images and how iPhoto imports them into the application itself. For example, let's say that you went on a trip to Mexico and on the first day you took a whole bunch of pictures and then you didn't take pictures for two more days and then you started taking pictures again. iPhoto is smart enough to realize that there is a gap in between when you took the images, so when you bring them into iPhoto, they will be separated into different events. So let's talk about what events are in this actual instance here in my collection. In my instance, I have Snaliens and this is a toy line that I created and I have two different events for it here and I have another even where I took the pictures with a cheap digital camera and what you can do with these events is you can combine them into one event. You can also split them. But before I do that, I want to bring up something very, very important to understand about events. A photo can not live in more than one event; however, you can take an image from an event and place it in as many albums as you like. Now, think of an album as simply a storage area for instances of your event photographs. To open an event, all you have to do is double click on it like so. Then you can see all of the events contained in the one that you clicked on. And down here it tells me that I have 18 photographs in this particular event. I can always go back to the events list by clicking here and I'll double click again. I can also cycle through the events with these buttons here on the upper right-hand side. So events, once again, are a way for you to organize your images based on how you import them, but you're free to create your own events and I'll talk about how to do that in just a moment.
