Introduction / About .Mac
Subtitles of the Movie
For a while now, Apple has offered a service called .Mac which allows you to pretty much extend your usability of the iLife suite so that you have online capabilities. For example, with .Mac, which is about 99.00 a year, you're given ten gigabytes of email storage, which is really kind of cool and not just email, but also file storage. There's that you'll see when you have a subscription to .Mac called an iDisk and a disk will show up on your hard drive when you invoke it and you can drag files to it and you can store, once again, up to ten gigabytes of information there. You can even buy more information, or more space if you so desire. Some of the other features that come with .Mac are backup storage so you can backup your files on the iDisk. You can also synch between different Macintosh computers. So let's say I have this Mac, which is a Mac Pro and I want to share some information such as my Safari bookmarks, my contacts and that kind of thing between more than one computer. With .Mac, I can easily do that by clicking this button here. So I can synch whatever's on this computer with what's on my laptop so that the information matches. Very, very handy, especially if you use Safari. So all of my bookmarks will show up in both computer platforms in exactly the same way. So on my laptop and my desktop, I'll have the same information. You also have the ability to have a hosted website with iWeb and we'll talk more about iWeb later on in this tutorial. So it is a really nice way to have extra storage space, which is offsite, which means it's not in your actual office or studio and you can access your files anywhere that you can access your .Mac account. Now think about how cool that is. If you're going to show someone some photographs but you really don't have time to get them ready now, just put them on .Mac and then when you get to your location, download them and continue to work on your photos. So that's one example of how you can use the iDisk. So, .Mac is available for 99.00 a year. Just go to the Apple website and check the Mac tab here. And read more about .Mac. You can find out all the details on the website and find out more about what this application will offer you.
