Introduction / System Requirements
Subtitles of the Movie
In order to run iLife '08, you should have a Macintosh computer to run all the applications, but people who have a Windows PC can use the iTunes application with no problem, although I'm gong to let you know in advance that iMovie is going to be the most, I think, processor-intensive application, so I'll talk about what you might want to get for iMovie in a moment. But to run iLife '08, you should have Intel Macintosh or a Power PC G5 or at the very least, a Power PC G4, a Macintosh processor. Now, based on the Intel models, let me just go ahead and show you what I have my computer here. I have a Mac Pro and I'm able to run Windows as well as this Macintosh. For people who don't know about that, the latest Macintosh computers have Intel chips in them, believe it or not. I have two three-gigahertz dual-core Intel Zenon processors, which means that I can restart my computer into pure Windows and I'm currently running Windows Vista Home Edition. And I went to the store, I bought Windows, installed it, no problem at all. I also have two gigabytes of a memory as well. So I have enough power in this machine to run the suite with no problem. Alright, let me get back to iMovie. iMovie is going to require a Mac with either an Intel processor or a Power Mac G5 with at least a dual 2.0 gigahertz or faster processor or an iMac G5 with 1.9 gigahertz processor or faster. iDVD doesn't require as much power, but it still requires to have a 733-megahertz processor. So you can use iDVD because of all the suite in the iLife applications, iDVD has been modified the least. Let's talk about RAM now. As you see, I have two gigabytes of RAM, but you only need to have a minimum of 512, although Apple itself recommends one gigabyte. If you're going to use high-definition video, you're going to want to have at least one gigabyte of RAM. Your operating system should be Macintosh OS 10, 10.4.0 or later. For installation, you're going to want to have three gigabytes of space available. I recommend far more than that because when you're working with video, it's going to take a lot of space. Fortunately, the hard drives today have a lot of space so you should be fine if you have a brand-new Mac. You're going to need a DVD drive to install the applications. So that's important as well. Once again, if you have a new Mac, not a problem. You're going to need QuickTime 7.2 or later and if you're going to do 24-bit recording in Garage Band, you should have a Mac compatible audio interface that supports 24-bit audio. If you're going to burn DVDs to make movies for example to give to people, you want to have an Apple SuperDrive or a compatible third-party DVD burner. If you're going to use any of the .NET services, for example, you want to make books in iPhoto or you want to do anything that's going to require an Internet connection, yeah, you obviously have to be online. So the same applies for iWeb and once again, guys, that's what you're going to need to run iLife '08. If you're on a Windows PC, you're able to run iTunes and download iTunes without having to buy it. iTunes is free but if you really want to enjoy the complete functionality that the iLife '08 suite offers you, you should definitely look into getting a new Mac because once again, you don't have to leave the Windows world behind. You can just migrate and have both systems in one machine.
