Subtitles of the Movie
This movie will cover how to output interlaced video and audio files. First, when working with any composite, it is helpful to understand what our output and delivery format are, prior to starting our node tree. Everything from the level of detail and color range required to the size and pixel aspect ratio of our comp is dependant on the specifics of our output format. Besides, changing all of your settings after you have started compositing can be a tedious chore with a high margin of error. So talk to your editor and client to determine your output format as early as possible in your process. Once you have these specifics, then go ahead and complete your composite and go to your Globals. In your Globals, open up the Render Controls subtree. Set your Field Rendering here to that of your output. If you are going to Progressive or Film Blank Output, keep this set to Off. Changing this to lower or upper re-interlaces footage that was interlaced to begin with or interlaces footage that was progressive to begin with. Setting the Global Parameter for Field Rendering chooses your field dominance, which depends on your output format. Most Avids can import lower odd or upper even fields. Final Cut works with lower fields. In the File Out node, be sure that you specify QuickTime and append the .MOV format to the file name. So, here we are in our File Out and I would like to be sure to specify the file format that is specific to my delivery. With video, it is often QuickTime and in a pinch, the Animation Kodak works quite well. Unless you need it, don't output with an alpha channel, Millions of Colors is without alpha, Millions of Colors Plus is with. And if you haven't been told, a Kodak Animation Compression or uncompressed 8 byte work well in a pinch. To do a final render, we attach a File Out node at the end of our node chain and specify the format. If we are working with audio and have fussed with this audio at all in the Audio Panel, we want to make sure that this audio exports from Shake with the rest of our work. Now, if we are exporting a QuickTime, we can enable audio using this small Audio subtree. Turn on the audio and set your audio sample rate, 48 being best quality, 44 being CD quality and the depth of your sound, 8 bit or 16 bit. But if we are outputting image sequence, the audio file must be handled separately. Why? Because a folder of still pictures can't play sound. To output sound as a separate file go to the Audio panel and you will need to adjust your Mix Down options. In the Mix Down options, click Update From Globals in order to set your audio file to the same length as your composite. Set your Audio Sampling rate to 48 for best quality, 44 for CD quality and 22.050 for Internet style quality. I usually use 48. Set your re-sampling quality to highest and watch your clipping info. If your audio is too loud in the left or right channel, you may have to adjust your Track Gain parameter. And then to save, change the file name and press the Folder in order to set it to where you want it to save. In the end, you want to click the button for Save Mix Down. In summary, we can output interlaced footage as interlaced or progressive and as QuickTime or as Image Sequence. If you are outputting with sound, be sure to enable this in your File Out QuickTime settings by turning on the Audio button and adjusting the Audio parameters. Or if you are outputting with sound, be sure to enable this in your File Out QuickTime settings by turning on the Audio Radio button here and setting your audio settings in the Audio subtree of the File Out. Or if you are outputting an image sequence, you can output your sound as a separate file, using the Audio Panel's Mix Down options. Setting your options here and then clicking Save Mix Down.
