Subtitles of the Movie
This movie will continue with our tour of animating and feathering Roto-shapes. Roto-shapes actually are made up of two overlapping sets of points. One controls the shape of the fill, while the other controls the shape of the feather. Moving the two sets apart leads to feathered edges on our Roto-shape. Moving the two sets together is the default, or Group Points button. Selecting the shape point automatically moves the feather or edge point with it. The Main Points button allows us to just move the main shape points independently of the edge points. See? Ooh, now we have a feather. Edge points only allows moving the edge points of a shape, but not the main points. The Any Points button allows you to move either shape or edge points independently of one another. To soften an edge, you can select the Edge Points button and pull a point out from the main point to see a softening. However, overlapping edge points can cause weird rendering problems, so apply a filter blurred node to eliminate this if it happens. You can make your shapes interdependent by right clicking a transformer and choosing Add Child from the drop down menu. Then you would click the transformer controller of the shape you want to follow it. Now, when I move my one shape, the other shape follows along. To unlink the two, right click and select Remove Parents. Now, they can move independently of one another again. To review, Auto keyframing can be achieved with the Key button, it can be changed to manual by switching it on and off as you change your Roto-shapes. You can choose whether your keyframing shapes individually or not by using this button. A Roto-shape's points turn blue if they have a Key Frame at the current frame. Additional Key Frame options are available if you right click a shape's transform controls. The animation of shapes can be controlled using, within the parameters, the Timing sub parameters. Creating soft edges can be achieved by clicking on the Edge button and moving an edge away from a main point. And Roto-shapes can have a parent-child relationship by right clicking a transform controller, choosing Add Child, and then clicking, in a transform controller, of the shape you wish to be the child. Roto-shape is especially useful in Roto-scoping situations where an actor is being removed from his or her background, so it's a good idea to learn it well. Refer to the Apple documentation for more information on Roto-shapes, found in the Shake user manual.
