Introduction / Intro to Behaviors pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

Back in the Inspector version of the Behavior - and I want to point out something that is common to many Behaviors - the Increment type. This pop-up shows a choice of Rate or Final Value. If I have it set to Continuous Rate the gear spins - and I'll play it - the gear spins at a constant rate even when I shorten the Behavior in the Mini Timeline. With the Increment set to Ramp to Final Value and I need to enter a number, say 1200 degrees, then the speed of the spin is affected by the length of the Behavior's track in the Mini Timeline, like this; and I'll stop it. Notice that the Spin To parameter in the Behavior changes to Spin Rate when I switch the Increment type back to Continuous Rate. Now, in either Increment type the Behavior stops altogether when the Playhead reaches the end of its track. By having a Behavior's track be shorter than the object it's attached to you can have Behaviors start and stop at a different time than the object. One more example and I will add two Behaviors this time to the parent group instead of the gear and from Simulations I'll pick Edge Collision and Gravity. I'm going to quickly adjust a couple of parameters, set the Acceleration of the Gravity to 200 and the Height of the Edge Collision to 351 and now we'll play it. Notice that I can turn off any Behavior independent of the others by clicking it off in the Layers tab, like this, or, if I click on the Behavior Icon next to the Object Layer all the attached Behaviors stop. Well, that's the introduction to Behaviors and that concludes the chapter on the Introduction to Motion's components. There's plenty more to explore with Behaviors and we will do so in a later chapter. Now it's time to get into some knee-deep water and splash around a bit with Layers.
