Getting Starting with Effects / Change Particle Behavior
Subtitles of the Movie
Now as we start to flex our muscles with Effects to our Motion objects, our Motion Projects, I want to also point out that when you add an effect like a Particle Emitter you could also apply Filters and Behaviors to that Effect. So, here I'm going to add a Behavior to my Particles. I'm going to scale them over their life so they don't just all pop out at the same size. Now notice what change that's going to make right away. If I just go ahead and play through things here, that's going to make a scale look like that. So notice that the Frames per Second is a little bit slow. It's not quite at 30 frames per second as it plays through, but it's trying to render this and catch up but it's also having to record a video at the same time. So, notice here that this gives more of a 3D effect to what I had going here, and remember I can't hit the D on the keyboard and make changes to the parameters of the particle emitter first of all, and then if I hit D I change the scale over the Life effect or behavior that I've added to the Particle Emitter. So now I've got an effect, or an object that behaves this way. So I can change these things if I want to. I also have a little drop-down here, Increment Type, Birth and Death Values, so, what is the Birth Scale going to be? Right now it's at zero. If I want these things to appear actually when they are burned I can slide my scale at Birth. If I want a little bit more of a 3D effect I can use the Scale at Death to look like this. If I want this to fill up the whole screen again I press D and I change these parameters here and I try to make them zoom out as much as I can. Notice I can set the Rotation, the Life, I can make it last a little bit longer, so now you've got something that might look like this. So again, certainly no right or wrong way to do things, it just simply changes the behaviors of the effects that you've started to apply. And again, remember that with the F5 key if you change your mind not only can you Undo several stages, but again you can start to make little tweaks and those are all individual changes that can be hard to Undo all at once, and if I just want to say, you know what, this scaling that I've done here, this behavior of my scale over the Life, if I don't like that I just give it a selection and I hit the Delete key and there it goes, it goes away.
