Projects / Clips and Sequences / Navigating with JKL
Subtitles of the Movie
Another couple of things that will help you navigate through your clips have to do with keyboard shortcuts and so I'll show you those here. You can go through your footage or through a clip that you've opened up in the viewer using the J, K and L keys. So if you don't have a keyboard that has those shortcuts labeled for you, just move your hand up there right now and trust me these will become your friend as well when you are navigating through clips, so you get very much in the habit of bringing up a clip in the viewer and then using J, K and L to either play your clip, pause it, reverse it, go through it in slow motion or even one frame at a time. So again I'll just do this one hand, of course you are not going to see me clicking on anything because I showed you some of the click things you can do in the previous module, now in this module I'll use the L key to play through the footage as we do here. K stops it, J reverses it and K stops it. If I want to go forward in slow motion I hold down the K and L at the same time. If I want to go backwards in slow motion I hold down K and J at the same time. If I want to go forward one frame at a time, I hold down the K and tap the L to queue up one frame. If I want to reverse that, hold down the K and J backs me up one frame at a time as you can see here. So those are some handy keyboard tips, remember also that you can again drag and drop your clip onto the viewer window itself to bring it up, you can give it a double click, you can hit enter on your keyboard or there is one other button that I want to show you that's in the viewer and its this one down at the bottom of the view and you probably won't get a tool tip here, but instead just give it a clip and this is your recently played clips. So if you've got something like this why this is very handy is that if you've got a browser that has a huge list of clips that are possible. Rather then have to go find this clip and then go find you know some reaction shot that you got maybe in some other bin even that you want to add to this sequence, you can instead go right here. So this list brings up, or this button here brings up all of your recently played clips until you can navigate quickly back to something that you just had up recently like that to bring it up in the viewer. So obviously I have opened up a few clips here in the last 10, 15, 30 minutes so again they're stored here so you might not have a full list worth of files but that button will certainly help you save time finding what you want to bring up in the viewer.
