When we walked through the Quick Export Settings in the previous tutorial we clicked the checkbox, if you remember, to generate a new AVI file at the same settings as the source files, however, this isn't always what we wish to achieve. Adobe to the rescue! Yes, by using the Media Encoder that comes with Premiere Pro you can export one type of file into another format. If you want to reduce the file size of a large AVI file, for example, you can choose to Output the resulting file in a more friendly and I mean not as large file size, a more friendly format such as MP4 or FLV for example. Let's look at how we do this. Here's our Adobe Media Encoder already open and first of all what we need to do with this very simple interface is just click on the Add button here to add a file that we want to reproduce but convert into a different format. So, we'll just choose one of these at random. Let's just go for this first one here, Appleton Farm 01 and I'll click Open and immediately we can see across here that this is the path and this is the file that we want to convert. And whilst we're waiting to see if we want to add any more or duplicate this or perhaps we've changed our mind and remove it, then we get this message at the bottom here saying: Queue encoding will start in 1 minute 38 seconds at the moment or we could do, if we want to do it immediately, just press the Start Queue, which is up here, to kick start it straight away. Now what I want to do is I want to change the settings of this. I don't want to convert this just to an AVI file, I want to convert this into something else, so what I need to do is just click on this Settings button here. So I'll click it now and as soon as we do that we get this Export Settings dialog box that we saw previously, well, slightly different in that we don't get a button here to generate a new file at the same settings. First of all, on the left here we get to see our Source File and by clicking on Output there we get to see the Output file. Now we could crop this if we want to, but I'm going to leave this as it is, OK, I'll just go back to the Source there. And over on the right-hand side here I'm going to choose the format that I want to convert this AVI into. I'm going to leave it as the Format here, the FLV F4V, the Encoding format, but you can choose from any one of these down here - a huge choice, but I will leave it as FLV. And we could choose a Preset here by just dropping on the Reveal there and what I'm going to do is I'm going to come down to FLV rather than F4V. I'll click on FLV. I prefer that. Did you notice that you can choose here between Match Source Attributes, High Quality, Medium Quality, et cetera, et cetera. I'll leave it on the Match Source Attributes, i.e., I'm going to leave it at the same size. And I do want to export both the Video and the Audio and similar to in the last tutorial, the Output here, we would just click on here to choose where we want this to be saved. And we have these five tabs down here if you want to add any Filters. I don't want to add any Blur to it. Clicking on the Format there gives me two choices: FLV or F4V. Well, I'm going to use FLV. The Video we're told the Codec is On2 VP6 there. Now if I want to alter the size of the video just come down here to where it says Resize Video and now the Frame Width and the Frame Height there can be adjusted should you want to. I'll leave that as it is so it's grayed out. I'm going to leave the Frame Rate the same as the source, but you can alter this to whatever you want it to be, OK? And there are a couple of more different settings down here should you want to explore what they are. And, you know, pretty much that's all there is to it and now all you would do is click OK to generate a new file called Appleton Farm based on this video clip here, the original AVI and it will convert it into an FLV file for us. OK? So, that's a quick run-through of the Media Encoder and what it can do for you, so explore at your leisure. It's a good-ry tool that comes with Premiere Pro.
