Introduction / System Requirements
Subtitles of the Movie
If you've ever used a multimedia application like Premiere Pro before, you've no doubt discovered that it requires a lot of software and hardware power to perform at its best. Multimedia files like audio and in particular, video, can be very large and therefore take quite a bit of muscle to edit and manipulate. Displayed here are the suggested system requirements as published by Adobe to successfully run Premiere Pro CS3. You'll want to have the following system components at a minimum to complete any but the most simple and small Premiere Pro projects. Premiere now runs under both the Mac operating system and Windows. It runs under Mac OS X, versions 10.4.9 and later. Runs under Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home Edition with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Home Premium version, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise versions of Vista. You'll need an Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1.4 gigahertz minimum for DV editing, and 3.4 gigahertz for HDD, Intel Centrino, Intel Xeon, dual 2.8 gigahertz processors for HD, or an Intel Core Duo or compatible processor. You'll need an SSE2-enabled processor for AMD systems, one gigabyte of RAM for DV editing and two gigabytes of RAM for HDV and HD editing. You'll need 10 gigabytes of available hard drive space and additional free space during installation. You'll need a dedicated 7200 RPM hard drive for DV and HDV editing, although Adobe recommends having a RAID disk array. You'll also need a 1280 by 1024 minimum monitor resolution with 32-bit video card and an Adobe-recommended graphics card for GPU accelerated playback. You'll need a Microsoft Direct X or ASIO compatible sound card. For SDHD workflows, you'll need an Adobe certified card for Capture and Export to Tape. You'll need a DVD-ROM drive and a Blue Ray burner for a Blue Ray disk creation, plus a DVD plus or minus R burner for DVD creation. You'll need a FireWire port, otherwise known as an OHCI compatible IEEE 1394 port. For DV and HDV capture, export to tape, and transmit to DV device. QuickTime 7 software is required to use QuickTime features. You'll need an Internet or phone connection for product activation and a broadband Internet connection will be required for Adobe Stock Photos and other Adobe services. In addition to these minimum hardware requirements, you'll probably want to consider acquiring the following professional upgrades, if not right away, then as your Premiere Pro editing skills increase and allow you to tackle more sophisticated projects. A video capture board, a video monitor that's not a computer monitor, but a television monitor, advanced multi-track capable audio card, surround speaker system, and some type of hardware acceleration.
