Introduction / Course Overview
Subtitles of the Movie
Let me just quickly tell you about this VTC course on Premiere Pro CS4. If you've just watched the Introduction Tutorial and I've every reason to believe you have - you can't trick me - then you'll have noted me say this course won't walk you through the basics. I said this because I'm sure that after investing wisely in this CS4 version of Premiere Pro perhaps upgrading from Premiere Elements, or even migrating from other video editing applications such as Final Cut, Vegas, et cetera, then you probably will have a good working knowledge of the program's main functions. What I want to show you while explaining how I put together a short children's film is the intricacies of Premiere Pro and how you can make them work for you, so what will this course offer then, I hear you ask? Well, broadly speaking I've separated the Course into major areas of focus. These are this Introduction component then a Setting the Scene collection where I will discuss relevant and possibly essential settings required to run Premiere Pro CS4 smoothly and in a practical way. I'll then move to Getting Organized, where I will look at using stock footage and stills, for example, to help facilitate your workflow. Additionally, I'll look at how establishing the initial scene of your film tends to control the look of its outcome. Moving on from this but related to this last point, the next category of Tutorials will be about Establishing Atmosphere. I'll look at the use of Characters, how music can assist Atmosphere, the use of Color Frame Pact, Animation and Effects such as slow motion. Now, owing to the fact that this VTC course is about creating a short film the next section I'll look at is how to use other programs in additional Premiere Pro CS4 to help you get the look you want to achieve. Primarily, these other programs will be related to Premiere Pro in some way. For example, Adobe's Photoshop, Adobe Soundbooth and Illustrator, with perhaps reference at the end to Adobe's InDesign. Other non-related Adobe products include Third-Party Plug-ins to help quickly create a visual style to your film. Also, animation programs will be looked at seeing as the film focused on is a children's fairy tale. Incidentally, I will be looking at Adobe's After Effects and how to integrate it into Premiere Pro. I won't be looking at it in great detail. Please have a look at VTC's other Courses on this. OK, following on from this, I devote a whole category to using programs such as AKVIS Sketch to create magical illustrated-type backgrounds. I'll look at creating character voices with software such as Tech Speech Pro. I'll use this program, Tech Speech Pro, if you're not very good at creating your own character voices or you don't have access to actors, voice actors, to come in and record for you. And, I'll introduce you to FantaMorph, a great little standalone program that creates movement from still photography that you can use in creative ways. Visuals are of primary concern to us with video, of course, but so is sound, unless you're Charlie Chaplin, so getting the best from your audio is essential and you've guessed it, I include a category on this. Sound can be manipulated or enhanced in Premiere Pro CS4, but I'll look at sound editors like the aforementioned Soundbooth and Steinberg's WaveLab to make precise audio editing creative decisions. By the way, while watching these Tutorials every now and again while we're talking about sound, you might detect the sound of birds singing, very, very quietly in the background. I'll use programs such as Adobe Soundbooth or Steinberg's WaveLab to try and rejuice this, but just to let you know, there is a blackbird outside my studio, even though it's a soundproof studio or so you would think, the noise this blackbird is making while feeding its young is quite frankly astonishing. So, I'll use these programs I've just mentioned to try and filter out that sound. OK, moving back to visuals, the next category we'll look at Visual Effects - some new, some more traditional, but hopefully all fun to use. Hopefully along the way there will also be lots of other areas we'll cover. Toward the end of the Course I want to look at methods of distributing your completed film and additionally, how to promote it using program such as Adobe's InDesign and Adobe's Dreamweaver. I'm itching to get started, so let's go to the Pro - Premiere Pro.
