The file browser has been greatly enhanced in Photoshop CS. There’s a shortcut for it right around here, folder you click on and opens it up. But you cannot see it on my screen at this resolution. Alternatively, go to window file browser. And this is the default setup. You have your thumbnails on the right and some palettes on the left. In folders, this is where you navigate to the folder that you want to look in if a preview window of the currently selected thumbnail. Metadata and keywords, we will be getting into in the next tutorial. Now I can increase the size of this preview area by collapsing these other palettes by double clicking on them. Alternatively, I can collapse this left hand side if I want more room to view my thumbnails by clicking here. I can change the name of a photo by clicking in it. I can also change the size of the thumbnails by going to view, and change the size. Small is too small in my opinion, we were in the medium before. Large is a good size. You even have a custom thumbnail size. This is the size that I setup. You set it up by going to Edit, preferences and typing in the size that you would like. Let's go back to medium. You can rotate your photographs, clicking there and there are two ways to rank your photos. My favorite is the flagging method. So let's say you have five photos that you particularly like or six, you click on the first one, shift click on the last one, click on the flag and then when you come back into this folder, you can just view the flagged files. Alternatively you can rank the photographs and you do this by right clicking on the photograph on a PC or control clicking on a Mac and going into rank and giving it a number. Let's rank this one number 2. Sort by rank and then it changes it around. Puts the one and two in the top here. You can take a rank away by doing the same thing. Control click on a Mac or right click on a PC, clear ranking and the same with the flagging. Just click of with the flag. And that’s the basics of using the file browser. We will be getting into the keywords, metadata, renaming, batch renaming and exporting cache in the next tutorial.
