Now, as I mentioned in the previous lesson, Lightroom is 80 percent photo image cataloging and organizational capability, and the remaining 20 percent is the develop, slideshow, print, and Web output functionality, but I've got to tell you, we're going to spend a lot of time in this library section and this is really, really good. Adobe got it right. We're going to learn about catalogs and folders and collections and how you use those in your everyday functionality, smart collections and what those are, import, export. The metadata. This is just unbelievably complete. I mean, thank you, Adobe, for finally getting it right. You'll be able to put all of your metadata on every single one of your images, automatically. Every single time you bring in a new project into Lightroom, it will automatically post the metadata on there. All your copyright information will be there so that whenever you distribute this, wherever it may go, it will have the copyright information embedded in each and every image and thank you, Adobe, for getting that part right. The Develop module is obviously where you go to do your image manipulation functions and I must make one housekeeping note here that the screen recording software that we use to record these tutorials forces us to use an 800 screen resolution, so, you know, in 800 screen resolution, I really can't do justice to the layout and how good it is. We will close panels, you know, from time to time in order to maximize our screen real estate. So open the program on your computer in a 1,080 or above screen resolution and then you will be that much more impressed by the capability and about how everything is laid out and how simple it is. But the Develop module is obviously where you're going to do your image manipulations and all of the tools are here. These are the things that you're familiar with in Photoshop and also in Adobe Camera Raw. It looks exactly like it does in Adobe Camera Raw, so for that reason, I think you should have a very short learning curve on this. So that's all here and also, you've seen a demonstration of the slideshow. I did my introductory narration with this slideshow, so you've seen how that works. It's extremely good. The Print module is one of the best Print modules on the market today. This thing was thoroughly thought out. It's very, very good and I cannot say enough good about the Print module. Also, on the Web functionality for Lightroom, you're going to see more and more professional photographers doing their own photo galleries on their own websites from this point forward because it is unbelievably easy to do. Again, the screen resolution of 800 does not do justice to what this program can do, but there are so many options. You can build Flash galleries at the click of a mouse. You can change your color schemes. You can change the layout. I mean, it just, you know, I mean it's just endless. The choices are endless. So that is, in a nutshell, what Lightroom is, what it does, and the different modules and what we're going to see and what we're going to do. Obviously we will begin with the Library section, but in the next lesson, let's go take a look at the presets and the general adjustments that you have to make to the image itself. You do this one time when you do your initial installation and it will help you from, you know, going forward from that point. So stay with us in the next lesson and we'll get you going on what you need to do to set up the program.
