Subtitles of the Movie

Now, I don't mean to belabor the point on vignettes, but they are such a powerful feature in Lightroom that I'm going to give you one more example of what they can do and it's a little bit different from what you might normally think a vignette would add to an image. Let's take a look at this picture of the bride and groom coming down the aisle after the ceremony, and we're going to do a crop because this definitely needs to be cropped. We're going to hold down the Shift key because I want to maintain the aspect ratio. Hold down the Shift key, left click and drag so that we maintain our aspect ratio, because this is probably going to turn into an album picture, I'm guessing. Then we position it, double click to effect the crop, and of course I think by looking at it, you can see that it definitely needs to be white balanced. We're going to go get our white balance tool and let's just start clicking on different places and see what kind of result we get. I think that's a bit too warm. Let's try the lamp post over here. I'm not holding my breath that that's going to work. Let's see what happens. OK, that's not bad. That wasn't a bad result at all, so I think we'll use that. Let's click, oh, come on now. Let's click on the lightshade at the very top and that's going to be about right. Let's warm it up just a tad, just a tad. OK, perfect. Now let's go down to vignette. We're going to do a special kind of vignette. See where I'm going with this? See how I'm bringing these real hard edges, coming way down on this. I'm forcing this vignette out to the very edges of the image. I'm doing this for a reason. Let's just boost this feathering just a little bit, just like that. OK, the amount is all the way over. OK, now we're going to come over here and we're going to select one of our presets. I like that, but it needs to be adjusted on the exposure and then, in order to bring out the detail on the dress, let's do a little recovery, but I think we can use the adjustment brush for that. Let's take a look and see what we have available to us. Exposure and let's just paint an area right here. See how that's bringing out the detail? We don't want to do it too much. Less is more. There's our mask look there. Let's get this little area right there. See there? Let's bring down the dress at the very bottom. OK, now we're just going to play with this exposure slider. Now we want to go that way. Let's, there we go. Very easy, very quick. Perfect. That's it. That's all we need to do. So what do you think? Not bad. Makes it look like a photo from the 1800s, doesn't it? I like that effect. That's what you can do with vignettes, kind of dress up the appearance of an antique photo, all in Lightroom.
