þÿ [00:00:00.0] Another one of the great time-saving devices in Photoshop CS is what is known as the batch tool or the batch dialogue box. And predictably enough it is a function that allows you to execute an action against a series of photographs. [00:00:14.0] In this particular case what the batch tool does is that you assign a directory where your subject photographs are going to reside. Then you can execute an the action against the series of all of those photographs in the directory. [00:00:26.0] So you have to be careful which directory you pick because every photograph in that directory will have that actually executed against it. So you take all the photographs that you want to change. You put them in a separate directory. You choose the directory and let s look at it right here. [00:00:40.0] What we do is we go up and we look at our file browser and we open it and we have here batch test with 5 photographs in it that we are going to do a demonstration with. [00:00:51.0] So what you do is go up to automate - batch and you get a dialogue box that allows you to choose a number of parameters. And one of the things about Photoshop that is really kind of nice is that it comes with some prepackaged actions that are really very, very nice and so we are going to use one of those. [00:01:08.0] You can use the prepackaged action or you can use the one you have made and saved, such as we have done with Joan. If you will recall we had this severely degraded image of Joan on the beach with that green power over it and we set up an action to correct that. [00:01:23.0] I'm not going to use that particular one now. We are going to the wood frame action which really puts a simulated wood-grain frame around any photograph you execute the action upon. We have got our file browser as our source file which is already designated. [00:01:37.0] There are a number of choices that you can make on that. Then the destination folder is also designated. You click choose, go to the folder you want the resulting images sent to, which might very well be different from the source directory. [00:01:52.0] In this case I want them to go to the source directory so we will choose that and hit OK. And then, as far as the document name is concerned, since we have a document and then a changed document you have got to give it a name [00:02:02.0] and down here there are a number of options that you can choose to automatically put the name of the document on the resulting finished product. And in this case we have document name or document name all caps, document name with maybe just a serial number, and so on and so on. [00:02:19.0] You can do it with dates and extensions and so on. Or you can have nothing if you would like. And then we add a one-digit serial number which is what I like to do to keep all the files together when you go to look at the windows explorer and then the extension. [00:02:32.0] So what that does is that it gives you a document name 1, document name 2, document name 3, and so on throughout the series of images that you want to correct. So hit OK and that begins the process and what happens, [00:02:43.0] and don t ask me why, this image is 500 pixels by 300 pixels but for whatever reason it is giving me a message that says image size must be a minimum of 100 pixels wide and tall, which it is. Okay, we hit continue and the actions begin to execute. [00:02:59.0] When the action is finished it makes sure that you have the correct title up there. If you want to change it you can at that point. You hit save and then you know increasing layers will increase the file size which is ok. [00:03:12.0] If you want to go back to your images and flatten all those layers, be my guest you can do that, but we are not going to do that for the purposes of this demonstration. Again hit continue, we hit save, we hit OK and we hit OK and we will keep going until all the photographs have been processed. [00:03:30.0] And there we have it. [00:03:48.0] And actually this looks very good. I am very pleased with the result in this particular action. You can take that and print it and put a simple frame around it. And that's a decent-looking photograph if I don t say so myself. [00:04:01.0] Now these are JPEGs and I always recommend that you not print JPEGs, but it is only for the purposes of this demonstration that we used a JPEG so that you could see how the batch tool works. [00:04:13.0] But this is a great time-saving device. Another one of the great time-saving devices in Photoshop CS-- the batch tool or batch dialogue box. [00:04:23.0]

1. DEFINITIONS

"VTC" refers to Virtual Training Company, Inc.
"You" refers to the user or subscriber.
"Software" refers to the VTC training content and software.

2. LICENSE: VTC hereby grants to You a worldwide, non-royalty bearing, non-exclusive license to use the Software according to the provisions contained herein and subject to payment of the applicable subscription fees.

3. RESTRICTIONS: You may not do any of the following:

Save the Software to Your hard disk or other storage medium; permit others to use the Software except as specified by addendum; modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software; make derivative works based on the Software; publish or otherwise disseminate the Software. VTC, Inc., VTC Online University, and the Virtual Training Company site is owned and operated by VTC, Inc. as a corporation of record.
All materials on this site are the property of VTC unless otherwise specified. No material from these pages may be copied, reproduced, republished, downloaded, uploaded, posted, transmitted, or distributed in any way. Modification of the materials or use of the materials for any other purpose is a violation of U.S. copyright law and other proprietary rights. You are billed according to your renewal selection below, and can renew monthly, yearly, or in any other increment offered. If you choose to be billed monthly, you will be billed every 30 days for the subscription until you request the subscription be cancelled. Our terms of service state that you must cancel a monthly subscription at least two business days before your renewal date. These two days give us enough time to ensure that you will not be charged again.

5. LIMITED WARRANTY: VTC warrants that the Software, if operated as directed, will substantially achieve the functionality described. VTC does not warrant, however, that Your use of the Software will be uninterrupted or that the operation of the Software will be error-free or secure. In addition, the security mechanisms implemented by the Software have inherent limitations, and You must determine that the Software sufficiently meets Your requirements. VTC also warrants that the media containing the Software, if provided by VTC, is free from defects in material from the date You acquired the Software. VTC's sole liability for any breach of this warranty shall be, in VTC's sole discretion: (i) to replace Your defective media or Software; or (ii) to advise You how to achieve substantially the same functionality with the Software as described; or (iii) if the above remedies are impracticable, to refund the subscription fee You paid for the Software. Only if You inform VTC of Your problem with the Software during the applicable subscription period will VTC be obligated to honor this warranty. VTC will use reasonable commercial efforts to repair, replace, advise, or refund pursuant to the foregoing warranty within thirty (30) days of being so notified. If any modifications are made to the Software by You during the warranty period; if the medium is subjected to accident, abuse, or improper use; or if You violate the terms of this Agreement, then this warranty shall immediately terminate. This warranty shall not apply if the Software is used on or in conjunction with hardware or software other than the unmodified version of hardware and software with which the Software was designed to be used as described.

THIS IS A LIMITED WARRANTY, AND IT IS THE ONLY WARRANTY MADE BY VTC OR ITS SUPPLIERS. VTC MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTIES' RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHER STATUTORY RIGHTS. HOWEVER, TO THE FULL EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DURATION OF STATUTORILY REQUIRED WARRANTIES, IF ANY, SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE ABOVE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD. 7. TERMINATION: This Agreement shall automatically terminate if You fail to comply with the restrictions described herein. Your obligations to pay outstanding subscription fees shall survive any termination of this Agreement.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AND UNDER NO LEGAL THEORY, TORT, CONTRACT, OR OTHERWISE, SHALL VTC OR ITS SUPPLIERS OR RESELLERS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY CHARACTER, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF GOODWILL, WORK STOPPAGE, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION, OR ANY AND ALL OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES. IN NO EVENT WILL VTC BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES IN EXCESS OF THE AMOUNT VTC RECEIVED FROM YOU FOR A LICENSE TO THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF VTC SHALL HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH
DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY OTHER PARTY. THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY SHALL NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY RESULTING FROM VTC'S NEGLIGENCE TO THE EXTENT APPLICABLE LAW PROHIBITS SUCH LIMITATION. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THIS EXCLUSION AND LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
